I just bought some clubs & a bag at Goodwill. $20 all told. Missing a few irons (I have a 3 and a 5), but I'll pick up the rest as they come available at the thrift stores and yard sales. I also got my learners permit. So I'm a golfer, the sport of young snobs and old geezers.

Last Tuesday I was invited to play 9 holes with friends of the family, I was the youngest in the foursome, the oldest being 85. I felt like I belonged. That God they don't keep score...I borrowed clubs from the other guys.

The honest truth--I didn't lose even one ball, in the rough, water or even a sand trap. I actually was able to hit balls into the air like a real golfer once in a while. I was the only one who made it across a pretty wide swamp in one stroke. They call that "encouraging"...I'm sure Carl and the Buckaroo saw a couple pics I posted.

So I'm invited to play the same course again tomorrow. It may not be a day at the gym, but I'm getting some low grade cardio at least...

OK boys, anyone else have a stick swinging vice they want to get off their chest?

Man I gave away a nice set of clubs when we moved my mom up.  Every time I played I kept thinking what a waste of a good airstrip or shooting range.

Get out of the way you ol duffer.  :icon_lol:

I used to swing at a few balls now and then, usually at company functions. Right now, I'm not sure I could pay attention to the game without thinking what else I could be doing with my time.....
But I do have fond memories of getting out with my Dad and younger brother (all of us rookies) and doing a scruffy 9 hole course one evening..that was enjoyable!

Well, no good golfing tales to share, but my Medicare card came in the mail the other day! 😮😳😢

That can only mean mine is being laminated as I type...

Heh, well I am in glasses for a couple weeks, prepping for cataract removal even before medicare.

Sorry Honcho. Me? I appear to be passing a stone this weekend. Kept me up all last night.

I've been in glasses since 5th grade. So I don't what suddenly needing glasses is like. If you've never passed a stone, pray you never do.

Backwoods old wives remedies are most welcome 🙏

I played baseball as a kid.  I was a pretty decent shortstop, but I couldn't hit worth a damn, so my major league career was pretty much over before it started.  So I gave that up and went drag racing for a while, but I couldn't afford that, so now I build model airplanes.... :disturbed:

Been in glasses as long as I can remember and don't really worry about it.  They've saved me from getting stuff in my eyeballs more than once and after watching all the crap Pat has had to go through because of her wearing contacts for years, I think I'll keep them a while longer.  Eye doc says my vision is actually getting a little better as I get older.  No cataracts yet, knock on wood.

Funny thing about medicare.  No one tells you anything about it before you get into it!

I have worn glasses for 3 weeks straight, and I hate just about every minute of it.  I have bad eyes with astigmatism, so the glasses are coke bottles and distort everything which contacts didn't.   Building the barn has been a challenge since every board looks warped, hopefully it won't turn out like a Picasso painting sculpted, not that I would know looking at it righjt now. :eusa_wall:

Hopefully after its over I won't have to worry about any of except reading glasses.

Somehow I missed this thread......so were you bracket racing, or something more $eriou$ ? I shoulda, coulda, woulda when I was younger, but never did, so now I just watch. Still building model airplanes though...just finishing off a Spitfire wing for a flying buddy......
If I didn't do that, I could see myself sitting in my La-Z-y boy eating junk food all day long watching youtube videos....

Nony, I started out bracket racing on the weekends after I graduated high school.  It was a run what ya brung setup.  My friend had a 1970 Buick GS with the Stage 1 455 in it.  It was faster than my 400 Trans Am, so that's what we took.  About the only mod we made to it was a shift kit in the tranny (because he had to drive it to work every day) and a set of "slightly" used slicks we got from another friend.

What was more fun was the SCCA autocross events.  I started that one in the T/A, but the car was too big and heavy for some of the smaller venues, so another friend and I split the $250 cost and bought a '67 Bugeye Sprite from another racer who was moving up.  We added a roll cage, a Weber carb, new tires, anti-roll bars (used, of course) and a racing harness - all that cost more than the car!  But we had a blast with it.  It was street legal, so we could extend the fun to non race days.

I wish I had the T/A and the Sprite back in my garage now...but the model airplanes are a hell of a lot cheaper!

Very cool! I had a '75 or '76 TA ( can't remember which).....way too much car for me at the time, so I sold it before I killed myself....downgraded to a Z28.....
