Yesterday, approx. 9:15 am:
Wind howling @ 40 mph directly at home plate. Temps around 40 (F). Mom & Pop watching from the warm comfort of the Blazer, parked at the fence behind center field.
We could have worn snowmobile suits.
The lone lefty on the squad is 4th in the batting lineup. She has a fear of the ball that she's still working on, makes her pull her swing and dodge the pitch instead of leaning into it. She runs with her right foot at a 45 degree out angle because of a bout with planters warts 3 years ago--It's all in her head, but she's working on that too...
Remember what I said about the wind?
The count was 0-2. She was thrown a perfect pitch (rare for 7th grade pitchers in fast-pitch softball). She forgot to dodge the pitch, and for some unfathomable reason actually leaned in and swung away...
The ball hit the fence in left field...She made it to home plate before the other team could get the ball to third...
