Lack of 22lr shells has kept me from any plinking this spring, but the peas are coming out of the ground and the rabbits have been eating the shoots to the nub. So it's time to protect the dinner table. I loaded the 10/22 with the high dollar ($12/100) CCI rounds and took the toughest shot first, a yearling @ about 150 yards. Hit him with a kill shot with the first pull of the trigger. Part of my immediate marksmanship I'm sure was due to the obsession with conserving ammo, but I swear that stainless barrel is a better aim than I am.
There have been a rash of black bear sightings just to our north, they scare off easy enough, but the .243 is now clean and accessible just in case.
The Benelli has been dispatching rodentia for a month now...
Note to self.... do not... repeat.. do not try to go steal one o Stetto's watermelons :disturbed:
Maybe we should rename you Wild Bill? :)
I was out yesterday shooting some unobtanium as well. I wanted to be sure and have the 22 lever action sighted in good for Vicki as she has been dispatching skunks etc. and it has irons sights where everything else has a scope on it for longer range.
Earlier this spring I was out plinking prairie dogs once in a while, but the cool and wet has the grass so high you can't see them now except in a couple colonies that get worked over pretty well, so after the 1st shot they are gone.
Yeah we got the high grass too. Really has made the chipmonk population explode, 'cause I can't find them so easy. But the rabbits are getting pretty bold, which makes me believe that there are many more of them than last year.
This was interesting, and I posted it on sks:

While his theory may pan out, it doesn't explain the total desert for 22lr this area has been. Even the big stores are still barren.
I doubt we will see prices go back to pre panic levels, nothing else is cheaper from 6 years ago, and ammo won't be either, just because the dollar is weaker. It will be cheaper than panic price, and hopefully in stock everywhere. I am seeing it more and more, Places like Walmart are constantly out becasue its the only source from a big store for 100 miles in any direction.
If you need some, Palmetto state armory had some CCI standard velocity in stock. And I have seen some golden bullets on line, but its running 10- 12 cents a round with shipping.
Almost afraid to post this, as it seems each time I do, the thread comes to a screeching halt!
Was finally able to get some 9mm ammo this past weekend at $13 for 50 rounds. No limit on that, suprisingly. The only thing that was limited was .22, and that was to two boxes per person.
Shh, we all have to be quiet now.
At least you have some, what little comes in her is gone immediately. What I don't get is the guys camping early and waiting in line at the sporting goods stores still, you can find it online, and that seems much more useful to just mail order it than sitting around like vultures waiting to pounce on 22lr ammo.
You're right about the campers. I got my ammo at Academy (off the shelf and there was plenty of it), and I've been told you can get all calibers at Gander Mountain also. My local shooting range has plenty as well. But you aren't going to find squat at Wally World. One of their sales people (who turned out to be an ex-Royal Marine of all things) told me there are about a dozen people who show up at o-dark-thirty on delivery day and buy everything they can get their hands on.
It simply doesn't ship here. The local Wally, the Fleet store, the sport shop and the box stores in Fargo-out and none expected. One of the guys I know at Fleet told me they even lost the key to the ammo case because it hasn't been used for so long.
I'd buy internet except for the paper trail it leaves...
Heheh, oh Stetto, they already know who you are and have you categorized for threat level just for posting in the places you do and any guns you have ran a NICs check on much less buying ammo. (http://www.fubarhill.com/emoticons/deal.gif)
Weal men woad der own buwwets...hahahaha...(E. Fudd)
Heheh, about one more hobby and I will live in a tent while the house is all storage and workshop. Well that and my wife would kick me out. (http://www.fubarhill.com/emoticons/happilyabused.gif)
