My father in Law passed away this week.
I know some of you have met him at the gathering.
Just a little background of what had been going on with him- He was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis about a year and half ago, and had steadily lost mobility as well as had increasing disabling pain, and had made several emergency trips to the hospital as a result. The 1st was about the 1st of the year in 2014 where he had let himself get so dehydrated and lost so much weight he could not get out of bed. Spent a couple weeks in the hospital and a month in a nursing home recovering, which he did. That was followed by occasional collapse every 3 or 4 months and repeat of short hospital stay through out the year trying different drugs and steroids to help him. Last time, about 3 months ago now, he fell and laid all night in the hallway before letting his wife call us and we called 911.
Unfortunately with the combo of drugs and pain killers he had some onset of dementia as well by then. Since then he was in a nursing home gaining some strength back by getting the near constant care he needed. But as he started feeling better, he was wanting to come home, the docs would not release him, but without a court order they could not hold him and he came home on his own. This led to a lot of arguing with Vicki who had become his caretaker for the last year and half. He was home just a week, Vicki got a call from her mom to stop by because she thought he was dead. He had died in his sleep. There was no autopsy, cause of death was listed as natural, but I am pretty sure its because he unintentionally overdosed on painkillers and his arthritis medicine.
So as you can guess its been a tough year for everyone as far as that stuff went, and while I am sad, I am thankful he has found some peace and comfort at last and suffers no more.
Very sorry to hear this Eric. Will be praying for you and Vicki.
Heartfelt condolences, my friend.
I'm sorry for your loss. I'll put your and yours in my prayers.
Very sorry to hear that. Prayers for all involved.
Losing a loved one is very tough......only tempered by the knowlege that they are no longer suffering.
