Title: been out woikin fo a change
Post by: Frazz on November 06, 2009, 11:14:31 PM
:disgust:  Neighbor needed me to drive truck a few days so ole frazzy gets to drive a fairly new Kenworth tractor and trailer setup.  Cruise control and the works  :icon_mrgreen:  Its pretty cool.  Bad thing is when this gig is over gotta go back to our old 76 ford tandem and pup and 86 kenworth and pup  :sadness:  Anyway been workin til about 11 every night... jeez this is worse than wheat harvest, and this milo hauling is itchy itchy itchy.  We hauling to a Seaboard facililty, and we get to dump ourselves and all that... only thing we dont do at the elevator is weigh our trucks  :disturbed:

Heh, its always fun to run neighbors new stuff knowing you don't have to pay for it.

I got the bright idea that after 15 years of our temporary porch out front, we needed to rebuild the porch, pulled the roof down and extended it out a couple feet and the width of the house.  :eusa_doh: What an idiot, I forgot how much I hate remodeling.  But not before I started tearing up the deck.  :P

Had to wait for the metal roofing to get here since we ordered a color, which was delayed and showed up the day before our big snow storm, so more waiting weather to straighten up, which it did this week.

One more day and I think I may have it all done. When I get the mess cleaned up in front so you can actually see it I will post a pic.

I'm still not allowed to drive--Don't wanna talk about it...

Eric, I feel your pain regarding the remodel thing. I am basically under orders to remodel this entire house, and the worse part is that the order of rooms in which I'm ordered to remodel changes almost daily, usually as I'm tooling up for a particular room--All this and trying to winterize the exterior--Every window bleeds air like there's no glass in the hole...

Good for you Fraz.. My brother drives a rig and is down in Montana and the Dakotas almost every week delivering fertilizer and feed and stuff.... He has  been stuck a few times trying to get into some of the farms....

**

...what seems like a fantastic reno idea, usually gets started right away..a-rippin' and a-bangin' , and then inertia sets in, and I have this huge pile of debris to stare at trying to motivate myself to finish the bloody job. However, I actually got two of them finished this year...took the last load to the dump last Sunday.... Now to batten down the hatches for the ..um....next season..... Oh, and I still have an unfinished fireplace staring at me.....dagnabbit!

Hey, that lools purty nice to me.  Now, looks like there is room for a hottub thingie.   How many times did you hit your thumb with the hammer, and most importantly, when one does such a deed what is the favorite expression of words

Metal roofing looks to me like the way to go anymore.  I hear its kind of expensive, but once your done installing it, thats it.

Don't you paint that green-treated until the end of next summer, or it''ll look like the siding behind it within 6 months...

Don't EVER paint or stain that floor---EVER. I have customers who pay through the nose to have me repaint or restain their decks EVERY YEAR. Doan choo doot...

But it looks great...C'mon up Eric, have I got a job for you! :icon_wink:

Actually  I don't think I hit my thumb once. Hit my head and did a lot of cussing about various things through out the project though.  :icon_biggrin: I think I spent as much time tearing off the chickenwire and stucco that was left as I did actually constructing.  I tore of the siding so I could screw the plate straight to the house, but had to keep it to patch some places, talk about tedious, 70 year old cedar siding doesn't like to come off in one piece, it was like an archeological dig, pry a little here, pry a little there and when it came off find the bones underneath.  :eek5:

We are going to do the rest of the roof in metal, its actually about the same money or close to good wind resistant shingles if you catch it on sale, about $65- $70 a square locally.  I ordered it cut to length and in the color we wanted and they kept delaying it coming until the day before the big snow when it was too late to do it,  but I guess it worked out.  I put some of the fan fold foam insulation under it, which caused a lot of the cussing, its open framed and the breeze was up and had a heck of a time keeping it in place, it will work much better on the roof that is full sheeted.

Anyway not to worry we are not overly concerned about paint..obviously.  :icon_biggrin:  We just treated the deck with boiled linseed oil to seal it a little. Its too cold now for anything to dry so maybe in the summer or so it will all get treated again.   The rest of it except maybe the eves will stay natural.  I told her we should just leave it so it all weathers, and then she could put her riding broom out front to match her black cats etc.  She disagreed, and eventually I could came to see her point... starting out of my right eye as the swelling went down.  :disturbed:

I also had built onto Vicki's milk shed.  She bought a milk cow, which of course doesn't fit sheds meant for goats, so I had to extend the loafing shed and make a new milk room for her.  She calls it the cow palace.

Looking good, Honcho.

I feel your pain, since I have to redo our front deck next spring. It's a 21' x 24' deck and I'm going to redeck it and add a roof over it. It sure get hot out there in the summer because it has full southern exposure, and the heat really soaks into the wood during the summer. On an 80 degree day, it'll be 100 on the deck. :eek5:

well got the ole milo and corn put away finally.  Our old trucks sure didnt like the last few days with the temps dipping down into the lower single digits here.  The old plastic air lines for brakes and stuff seemed to like the cold as it could release the air and not be contained very good.  The power steering on the ole ford kept wanting to catch in a certain spot all the time, which meant you had to muscle it then it would break free and work like it was supposed to til you put the wheel back where it was needed, ie, going down the road  :icon_lol:  Then the oil in the dump hydraulics was very cold and stiff  lol.  Once the bed was up seemed to take a long time to get it back down.  Somewhere in the pup trailer was a air leak when you set the brakes on the truck, pup would loose its air, then when you released it after sitting a while, you had to wait for air to build up before pup brakes would release.  It worked, so we didnt eff with it.

At least we had the forsight to get the heater fan motor and switch replaced in between snows, so it did keep the cab not warm but pretty decent for all the air leaks like around the doors, vents, windows, and places I didnt know had leaks  :eek5:  We pretty much just run our stuff in summer and fall harvests, not corn this late in the year.

Anyway, with all the moolah I made, :sadness: :sadness: (unkle Sam gonna get most of it) I'd like to invite ya'alls to my house boat  :disturbed: :icon_lol:
