Title: Deer Opener, and I so screwed the pooch
Post by: stetto on November 07, 2009, 07:45:43 AM
What a bummer. I bought a new rifle last fall with the intent of restarting a hunting career that I suspended when I was 15...All giddy about it...

So I get this brain thing in July, brain surgery in August, a number of weeks of "you can't" this and "you can't" that, followed by a mad rush to make some money and get caught up on the remake of the house...Along comes the sick season, and I got a crud that has hung on via our loving kids bringing gifts from other parents' loving kids at school (among other sources), and finally yesterday I feel well enough to get my gear together and get online to secure a license to kill...

But there was a deadline involved, not to mention that antlerless tags involved a lottery that also had a deadline...in AUGUST...

So I'm up at 5:00 this morning, listening to high-power rifle fire in the distance from all directions...

Woe, woe is me... :eusa_wall:

I think the whole brain transplant thing gives you a pass, but next year if you forget, your man card may be at risk.   :icon_biggrin:

Gee guys, thanks for the support... :eusa_eh: Even my dad rubbed it in, said he'd posted the property for nuthin'. I think he was actually really disappointed that I wasn't coming out to hunt. We chatted on the phone last night and he just talked and talked and talked about the hunts in the old days...Made me wonder if he wouldn't take his '06 out and clean it for the first time in 50 years...That's a long time for a nice gun to sit in a leather case, taking all that Minnesota humidity... :icon_cry:

Not so much bang-bang this morning. Musta scared 'em off...Or kilt 'em all...

The pooches are safe, it was just a figure of speech---I was neutered long, long ago... :sadness:

Well, I blocked the week out a long time ago, thinking that *sniff* I'd be otherwise engaged and smelling of guts and gunpowder. Instead I'm getting some stuff done around the catastrophe zone, got some epoxy on the basement floor, cleaned up the WORKSHOP THAT I NOW HAVE, hauled a sh!tload of burnable stuff down to the brushpile for Thanksgiving (family tradition, Mom burns the bird, the men burn the rest...), finally got the garage cleared out so Mama can get her car under cover when the frozen hurricanes hit, changed oil in the tractor, powerwasher, sn*wblower, weedwhip, two lawnboys, and my precious garden tiller, and didn't give hunting more than a couple of good cries, and it's only Monday!

Yer weedwhipper is a 4 stroker?  and the lawn boys too?  Back when my dad used to sell them they were all 2 stroke.

And iffn you reloaded, you could just dump a pound or two out in a pile and light it and smell it real good.  Hey, for fun, since ya all burn things LMAO, you oughta stick a lil gunpowder and some popcorn up that burdsass :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed:

Then as the ole joke goes... you's knowz when that buuuurd is done :eek5: :eek5:

I don't feel so bad.

The MN DNR, a bureacrasy in the literal tradition, so screwed up in their estimation of deer populations the last few years that they handed out doe tags like Halloween candy. Then this year they got the REAL numbers from actual hunters and people who do that sort of thing and this year inflicted an "antlered only" deer season, with a few doe tags passed out via lottery...

Nobody I know got their deer this year.

Nobody that they know got their deer this year.

It was, for most, a miserable hunt.

...But the weather was nice...
