Title: Bomber Field RC Warbird Fly In
Post by: jetmex on September 25, 2019, 03:57:36 PM
I took last Saturday off to attend the Bomber Field RC Warbird Meet in beautiful downtown Monaville, TX.  After a week of rain, the weather was perfect,  the meet being attended by over 100 pilots and more than 200 airplanes.  The highlight of the show was a fly by done by a full scale P-51, who at one point was below the trees while making passes over the field.

I ended up spending quite a bit of the show helping my friend Tomas, who is the US importer for VQ Models, specializing in warbird ARF's of all types.  That happened because I was one of the first to build their new 110 inch B-24.  There were five of those and their owners in attendance, four of which flew that day, the farthest one coming all the way from North Carolina.  One more was from California, the other three were all Texas birds.  "Mine" was on display at the VQ Warbirds pavilion and was the sole non flying B-24 that day.   It was great to get together with them and compare notes on the model, finding out we all had the same problems in the same places.  Tomas added to the group by giving each of us a commemorative shirt depicting us all as B-24 pilots.  It was a nice gesture, made a great impression on everyone.

Tomas posted pics of the event on the VQ Warbirds facebook page.  Most of the shots there are of the B-24 group to promote the new kit:

I took a bunch of pics as well and will post them here when I get a few minutes to download them.  The variety of models was amazing, from WWI airplanes all the way to turbine jets.  All in all a great day.  I sure needed the unwind time for sure.

And I do have to put in a plug for Tomas and VQ warbirds.  They're pretty nice ARF's and if you're looking for something a little different, take a look.

Incredible amount of man hours lined up along the fence.  I caught some pictures on a facebook group of it as well.

They look fantastic on the ground! How did they fly? Most r/c multi engine models that I have seen have a wing loading so high they have to be flown at full throttle to keep them in the air.....unfortunately destroying the scale realism...

The three pilots who flew that weekend said the airplanes flew great!  At 110 inch span, there's a lot of wing area and scale Fowler flaps if you need a little more.  All were electric - powered by four E-Flite power 32 motors and dual big honking 6C battery packs.  Don't know why anyone would go gas or glow on a multi engine model any more. Wally should be maidening the one I built tomorrow.  We spent yesterday dialing her in and getting the taxi test out of the way.  Everything works as advertised, so hopefully there won't be any problems.  He's shooting to have her ready to go for the BEST electric fly in this weekend.
