It was bound to happen. Harris County went on the famous "stay home" order as of last night. It's not as bad as it sounds, though some people are taking it too literally. All entertainment venues, schools and restaurants are closed, as are the playgrounds at all the parks, though you can still go to the park. Which doesn't really help all the parents with kids now at home who no longer have access to day care, because they're closed also. I wonder now how they're going to waive or make up the two and half months of school that will be missed if they cancel the rest of the year. Yesterday afternoon, all the teachers from the school the grandkids attend got in their cars and did a parade around the neighborhood to let the kids know they were still important. It was pretty neat.
Arriving to work this morning was a little eerie. We should be right in the midst of spring break, instead, there are long lines of airplanes parked on taxiways out here. It's quiet, few airplanes arriving or departing. There was absolutely no one in the terminal when I walked in; reminded me of the hurricanes and 9/11. I was handed a company letter stating that I was in an essential industry so please don't arrest me for being out and about. I'm supposed to carry it with me. Vy yes, I haff my papers Herr Kommissar!!
I am now eligible for senior day at Wally World! From 6-7am on Tuesdays, anyone over 60 can get in and shop ahead of the heathen hordes that will arrive later. I got there at 6:03 and the parking lot was already full. Got toilet paper for the kids and a few of the things I couldn't find earlier because everyone is worried about the zombie apocalypse. I figure those people will starve to death in houses full of toilet paper because they forgot to get food....
Hope this thing ends soon. There are probably pay cuts and furloughs coming, but right now I'm worried about the company going after the PBGC to get access to our pension fund. I'm planning on riding this thing out, but there may be an early retirement in my future.
How are all of you doing?
Surprising, being retired, and being winter, makes it pretty easy to stay at home. I get out once a day to take the dog for a walk, and spend the rest of my time in my shop... others, I know, are not so fortunate.
People are pretty much complying, but some of these "authorities" that we are supposed to listen to, are taking this waaaay to seriously! It should be over soon......
Yeah, I have been doing social distancing even before it was cool. Vicki has been to town everyday though with her mother in the hospital, they moved her to a nursing home now that has a no visitor policy in place, so she can come home when done with the mail route, which is an essential service so they keep telling her.
This time of year I am hermited up anyway, but did venture to town for some feed and bolts etc yesterday, it was kind of tense, everyone seemed a little on edge, and shortages of some stuff was noticeable. It doesn't help that people some guy standing in the check out is telling another guy he just got back with his girlfriend from 2 days in the Bahamas 5 days ago, I'm guessing probably spring break or cheap airfare enticed him or something.
I think everyone around him either leaned away or stepped back when he said that . :icon_lol: He said they only stayed a couple days and came back early because no one was there and lot of it was closed up. No shit, ya think? The other guy asked him if he caught anything while there and he said no laughing it off. I was thinking at one time that would have been appropriate talking about the clap, now it's a little more serious.
The entire state of CO has also done a stay at home order. Which I am sure those rural communities appreciate immensely.
Hunkered down here in the Soviet Socialist "Republic" of Minnesnowtakstan. Went to the hardware store yesterday too, pretty eyebrow raising some of the stuff that's been made a run on. Birdseed? Seriously?
Some old buffoon with an obvious respiratory ailment was wandering tge store, violating people's space. It was actually comical how some reacted to this poor slob lookin' to have some fun. They did have an LEO escort him out after a time.
I drove by a rural convenience store on the way home, a grocery supply truck was backed up to the load bay, and 30 or so people standing around the back of it. This is getting out of hand, even here in the Sticks. MN has a preponderance of the mind numbed institutionally ignorant, but I had no idea so many of them lived out here. It explains who they choose to elect to public office...
We're down to a half dozen rolls of cheap 1 ply TP, with no hope of resupply.
And Timmy "Hoffa" Waltz, our beloved retarded little mobster governor, has now chosen to join the panic mongers in declaring a lockdown on the state. Cynicism aside, I do not see this ending well...and not from this politihyped virus, either.
The fun continues here. We had 7500 passengers fly through here yesterday. Normally this is spring break and we have 50-60,000 go through. We're parking 425 airplanes in the next week, which is roughly half the fleet. Estimates now are that we may not be back to somewhat full schedule until August, and probably not back to where we were a month ago until next year. Whoever dreamed up all this idiocy sure as hell didn't plan on the consequences. The pic below shows what a stalled economy looks like...

Jaime, I believe they knew very, very well.
What I think they didn't plan for is the consequences to
them.
I Think when the virus crisis is past, and the fall out from this national shut down emerges, a lot of people in power are going to be more fearful than now, for multiple reasons.
Trouble is there are so many mindless minions that actually believe the hype...........
Nobody reads through the whole thing. Typical governmental claptrap designed to maintain an atmosphere of fear and....more fear. My kid wants to come by and do his laundry, but he's afraid of the $1000 fine and 90 day jail sentence.

And they are trying to open prison gates and set the people who belong there free. No doubt they'll be issuing sidearms to them on their way out...
I have a couple close friends, staunch "individualists", who are starting to succumb to this boolshit. The constant hammering is having the desired effect on some folks I'd never have believed...
Adolf would be proud!!
The same thing happens every time people are scared, they "have to do something", even if its wrong and pointless, as long as they can see 'something' being done they are relieved. Govt of course is happy to further its power, claiming to help while taking your power away.
Day 4, (and thankfully Friday) of what has to be the weirdest week of my aviation career. We're up to 85 parked airplanes, with more arriving each day. The airport has closed off several taxiways to make room for them, and if you want to see an air force the size that some small countries possess, just stop by Houston. What really rattles me is the quiet - no airplane noise, no roar of people yelling in the terminal. The PA announcements echo off the wall like you're in a big cave. Since there aren't thousands of bodies running through, the AC has turned the entire building into a huge icebox - it's cold out there inside. There are a few restaurants open, mainly catering to the employees who are still here. The ramp and gate people are worried, since there are no flights there is nothing for them to do and the hour reductions have already started for them. We're more fortunate here in maintenance because even though all those airplanes are parked, they still require a lot of work to keep them in flying condition. Houston is a miserable place to long term store airplanes because of the heat and humidity. That wreaks havoc on structures and electronics, and you should see the mess it leaves if the ramp neglects to dump the lavatories and water systems. Occasionally, catering forgets to take the food off, too. We're also sending a bunch of planes to Roswell, NM, so the aliens can have a good look at them.
There are dozens of state troopers and local cops in the parking garages and at arrival gates, looking for people arriving from New York and Louisiana They've been restricted from entering the state and if they do, they're supposed to self quarantine for 14 days. There is supposedly a fine for non compliance. As usual, there are also dozens of TSA agents getting a leisurely vacation on our dime, thus living up to their acronym, Thousands Standing Around. A newspaper paper article I read this morning told of the governor of Rhode Island using their state troopers and the national guard to hunt down people door to door from New York so they can be quarantined. That sent chills down my spine, what could be next?
Bright side of all this - I've been told by the grandkids that an epic nerf war is my future... :icon_mrgreen:
Hope you guys don't mind my venting....
Yeah, junior has taken a large pay cut in trade for some short term job security. He is flying down to Kansas with 6 other 767's tomorrow to park them...
We are doing fine here.....able to get basic necessities, and, since it is so fricken cold out there, have no reason to leave home.
For me I hardly notice, its calving season, so I am usually tied to home anyway.
Yeah I bet that is really odd in places that bustle, but even here in the small towns, Vicki says its as dead as 2am Thursday, during the day. Parking? No problem, waiting on lights no problem for any time of the day. Main street Torrington has about a half dozen businesses open, and those have signs "call ahead" or "delivery only". Plexiglass barrier on many of the checkout lanes , even in the farm stores, and tape lines to space everyone apart. Its truly surreal.
Torrington reported its 1st case, woman went to Deadood SD to gamble a couple weeks ago, and brought us all a gift back. I can understand why they are restricting travel from hot spots, people are scared and fleeing, not even caring if they are infected or not. Can't say as I blame them when reports are NYC hospitals are already overwhelmed and you may get to roll the dice of being valued enough to get treatment, so if you are sick, better to be sick in other cities less effected is the thinking, creating the same problem where they go to. Kind of the same plague spread Californians are on the country normally. But then states like CO that shut it all down, when you really need the relatively uninfected places to support the places that truly need locked down, always someone in govt to over react and make more problems.
Truly the world is changing before our eyes, hard to grasp the extent, and I suspect most people is thinking this will be over soon and back to the way it was, but I suspect there will be some of this that will be the new normal, even if our economy survives.
A short stop-motion video my son made of the approach into Kansas City to put another airliner into storage.

Man, they really hustle!
Big plans today........
After lunch, we are going to gather around and watch the lava lamp!!
🤔😉🙄😁
QuoteMan, they really hustle!
It must have been really quick, I haven't seen an airplane fly over the house since early this morning.....
The cows must not understand social distancing, especially when it comes to me touching their new babies, which ironically enough I am vaccinating for bovine corona virus.
The rest of the world it seems have lost their minds.
I wonder if that works on humans?? You could be famous.......
I can think of a few people I would like to try it on, at least I would be infamous.
Week 3 - walked into an almost empty office this morning. All the ops people are on reduced hours now, guess if there are no ops going on you don't need them. Up to 92 parked airplanes now, which is keeping me busier than expected because for some reason, they feel the need to move them around. Then we have to go looking for them. There are more managers and directors wandering around here now than anyone else. Probably why nothing is getting done. The weirdest thing today is that the Muzak has been shut off in the terminal.
Best moment of the weekend - the grandkids were over yesterday. The 7 year old grandson walks into the garage and asks me for some tape. He and the 10 year old grandson taped a cellphone to a radio control car and were chasing themselves around the house with it, taking video the whole time. I told them they were messed up and without skipping a beat, the 7 year old replied, "It's pretty cool isn't it? We're just like you!"
And --- there was toilet paper on the shelves at Wally World yesterday!! Not much, and it's the cheap stuff, but it was there. Gives me hope for the canned rutabagas coming back....
Only 46 flights today. Do you have any extra lava lamps, Nony? :disturbed:
How many flights normally?
Between 225 and 250 depending on what day it is.
I'm hearing nasty rumors that the government wants airline stock in exchange for the bailout, hope that doesn't happen. Nationalized airlines don't sound like much of a good idea to me....
I notice that certain governmental entities are pulling a decades old "climate change" trick on the peasantry, and keep moving the "3 weeks and we're out of this" line ahead every week. The statement doesn't change, but the timeline moves up at least another week. Now some of them, like Dallas, are holding their citizenry hostage until May 20. Next week, do NOT be surprised to see June 1 as their Day of Liberation...
Methinks we're being had.

Of course we are! In this day of whatever-the-social-conscious-flavor-of-the-week-is, can you imagine any government agency, at any level, wanting to be the first to say it's okay to go outside?
I really hope somewhere, someone is looking for a "cure" to stop this thing..........
Yep, I am amazed how many people think this "will be over in couple of weeks" even though we have been in it for longer already and the govt demanding things just increases. Also almost shocking, especially from the left that how many people are actually mad that trump is not acting like the dictator they claimed he was from the start to keep them 'safe'.
24 flights today.
We were informed by our director and HR last night that several people who work in here tested positive for the virus last week, which explains why no one is left in here. It was nice of them to tell us that in a timely manner, I guess company image comes before all else. Fortunately, I didn't have any direct contact with any of them, and since I sit in the farthest corner of the bunker, I really don't have much contact with anyone except my crew. Fingers crossed, I feel fine, but it is a bit unnerving. For once in my life, my anti-social tendencies are working in my favor... :eek5:
I wonder if Wally World sold out of lava lamps?
gaaaa! Hope you did touch anything they touched!
Being a world leader is nice except when it comes to the number of confirmed cases....
You guys stay safe, y'heah !
Still no airplanes flying over the house. Pat decided she had had enough of being cooped up, so we drove to Galveston yesterday to see what was going on. The plan was to grab some vittles drive by and eat at Seawolf Park. None of our usual favorite eateries were open for lunch, and the park (as well as the beaches) were closed. Whataburger was open, so we snagged some burgers and parked the car along the road leading up to the park and watched pelicans and boats go by. Seawolf park is home to the destroyer escort USS Stewart and submarine USS Cavalla, which sank a Japanese aircraft carrier in WWII. Both ships are high and dry and not in the best of shape, but I couldn't really get up close to see. After lunch, we drove through downtown Galveston, which was a ghost town. The place makes its living through tourist hordes, so this is really rough on all the folks down there. Then across Galveston Bay on the ferry to the Bolivar Peninsula and back home. It was good to be out and some of the scenery along the way was worth the drive.
The masked heathen hordes are out and about though. I ready somewhere that the masks will keep you from spreading the virus but won't stop you from getting it. Gotta wonder how that is going to work out....
Waaaaay back when I was young, like 8 years old or something my uncle lived in Houston and we flew down to visit, we drove to Galveston, I got to walk through the sub and destroyer and play on the AA guns, it was awsome!
STILL toilet paper. The ONLY tp on any store shelves is the gas station variety. Did the major producers switch to recycling the used stuff into facemasks? WTH?
I've called Costco twice, all they tell me is that the good stuff is gone before the trucks even dock. Now, around here anyway, a $26 30 roll pack of Charmin Ultra is getting scalped for almost $100...
I figured those that were going to fill their garages have done so by now. Apparently they're breeding...
It's back on the shelves here......I could mail you some, but it probably wouldn't make it........
We're supposed to help our PuddinFace move this weekend, she's over in Fargo, in a state that hasn't turned East Germany just yet. But Timmy "Hoffa" Waltz, our eminent terror-monger-in-chief in Minnesotakstan, has a hotline now for reporting "violators" of his house arrest order, and I've heard (likely untrue, but... :eusa_think:) that the traffic cams are even being utilized to nab the guilty...AND his unConstitutional orders are now extended, as will all, into May. I'm wondering if checkpoints won't be going up along state lines soon.
I will, of course, cite Marbury v Madison if approached. They've gotten to where they're arresting people for playing with their own kids in the park now, it's beyond surreal. I have the hardest time imagining this police statism being entirely reversed anytime in the future. The ruling class relenquishes nothing, once inflicted.
Our accounting business has gone completely nukkin' futz. People are calling all times of day and night demanding free consultations and assistance with PPP and E-I-E-I-O applications. Suddenly we've become a public service...The paying clientele are all slowly going silent, shut down by the state or by mere constriction of trade by that same state into insolvency. A 12 hundred dollar check is going to help few...but they don't know that. Yet.
Dylan is our "vulnerable". He works for a local store that's considered "essential", and is actually one of our clients. Their receipts almost immediately dropped to less than a third of normal since this terrorist attack by our own government began...At least we're still getting the bills paid, if only...
Oh, and being as we have a lot more idle time here, what without calving or feeding or planting or cutting or flying or parking the flying things or....
I figured out the Roku tv we've had for a year and a half, and found out we don't need cable or satellite to get networks, especially news, fo' FREE...So I started watching Fox News, which I haven't seen in 11 years or more, if for no other reason than it's the only network airing the daily chinese flu pressers and obligatory ensuing snipe attacks on Trump. He's really gotten good at it. If for no other reason, I like Trump for that. I get the giggles when he performs these eviscerations, and almost makes this nightmare worth it....
OK, not, but..... :eusa_clap:
Here it's pretty much business as usual for those of who don't work in town anyway, we social distance as way of life normally. That seems to have bunched the underwear for some, especially in neighboring states like CO who think they are California and should be able to dictate what all the adjacent states do "because it impacts them". To his credit our governor has politely told them to fuck off so far. And they conveniently forget how their legalizing weed has impacted all of us with zero consideration, but I digress.
Even so they are talking mid may for most of the lock downs and and limits here, not good news.
I am not worried they will rescind all these draconian orders, they will after all want wealth generated by people to tap into. What worries me is they will think this is who all crisis will be handled now. Assuming that this will not cause a cascade effect in the coming months and destroy the economy to start with. For some reason govt seems top think you can snap your fingers and have money to start up again, all the low interest loans and "free" grants that will assuredly come with a tax increase price tag that add to debt and more monetary obligation to meet, which is an anchor around any businesses neck.
I envy you your isolation, Eric, even on a good day...
Get this, MN's fetal alcohol damaged governor just now recommended that out-of-state lake-home owners STAY AWAY this summer. He's already putting the few lake resorts left in the state out of business by closing them indefinitely, but the small towns in proximity of all these lakes depend on those out-of-state lake-home owners for their effin' livelihood!!
I swear they prove with every "order" and "edict" that they're taking us down on purpose...Nobody would be that stupid otherwise...
Them what runs the third world airline I work for have now decided that in order to protect us from ourselves, we will have our temperatures taken each day before we report to work. One hundred degrees or over is deemed the magic number which will get you sent home. If you pass, you get a colored sticker on your ID badge that allows you to go to work. It's yellow today. There's a drive through tent at the hangars for the people that work there. They apologized to me this morning, "We're sorry, Mr. Carreon, but you're going to live."
Of course, none of our vendors or subsidiaries are doing this.
I've been doing my damndest to get to 100 degrees, but I just can't seem to get there! And please don't ask where the thermometer went... :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed: :disturbed:

Hmm, what surprises me is that the stupidity comes with an insanely arrogant lack of fear of retribution. The guy is single-handedly ruining lives and careers. There's more and more talk, even as the day progresses, of "Fuck this hawn-yawk, let's get back to business and wait for him to come try and stop us." The word is defiance, I'm sure every society had some measure of it before the takeover by tyrants, but this is, afterall, the United States, and this won't pass like it did in some countries.
I hope you in Canadia are enjoying a more grounded governance, Nony...
We fought a war of rebellion during a small pox epidemic, now we are ordered to stay inside that by chance we are infected. If this country should fail, we only have ourselves to blame.
Not many changes for us here in Kansas, at least the western part. Life goes on as normal except a few businesses want to bring stuff out to you instead of going inside. Mother in law is in the rest home, and our clinic, rest home and hospital are all interconnected over a city block. One entrance with staff taking temps before you are even let in. We cannot see my wife's mother, in fact on her 95th birthday last week we all (only 4 allowed) sang happy birthday to her through a glass window and held a sign that said happy birthday.
I don't know who is handing out the grades, but the state of Kansas got a D for people staying at home, and our county, Greeley, got an F rating. I have to say we have to be out and about doing our job. We have ordered hamburgers once and rode around town looking at things once in the last month. I do not intend to flat ass lock myself up for months.
Hey Frazz, I was starting to wonder about you. :thumb:
Yeah the entire state of WY got an F too. But for one, you have to travel to survive here, and two, by it's nature we 'social distance' more than any state back east anyway. You can't make anything idiot proof, including trying to isolate a population, they always make better idiots.
My Mother in law is in a nursing home now too, no visits, same peek through the window deal. The hospital is on lock down except for emergencies or life ending stuff. They want you to screen through their walk in clinic if you are sick, and that's after you call in 1st.

FWIW Jaime, Pink (the pop star) is recovering from this virus, and never had a fever..(interview with Ellen on you tube). So body temperature is not a reliable indicator.....y'know, just in case your bosses want to stay informed.......
I don't know what is more disturbing, that we listening to Pink or any celebrity about anything anymore, or that nony is watching Ellen. This lockdown thing is taking its toll on our sanity.
Just stumbled on it.....I used to listen to her 10 years ago.....now it is back to the 60's...😄

Yeah, Nony, I read that fever was not at all a good indicator, but I figure that some managing director of useless things in chicago figured it would keep the peasants from revolting and make it look like something was being done to "protect" us. Now everyone looks at your badge to make sure you have the right colored sticker and I'm pretty sure there's a snitch hotline set up somewhere so they can rat on you if you don't. All the masked ninjas in the terminal are going yards out of their way to go around you as if you're radioactive or affected with the plague.
I'm afraid I'm not very good at being confined either, but I usually don't see that many people anyway. My weekly trip out to Hooks airport to do airplane stuff is my sanity maintenance and so far no one has bothered me about it. But it is still unnerving seeing state troopers patrolling the terminal here at work.

Hope it brightened up your day a bit...
We are still stuck at home, although we can still go out for walks as long as we keep the magic 6' from anyone else. Some stores are still open, many are not. All indoor gathering places are closed (restaurants, hockey arenas, bars.....) But we are still on the edge of winter, so staying home is not a big deal........
OK here. Not much affecting us here as we 'social distance' as a matter of course. When I worked as a Network Engineer, I'd go into the office every six months whether I needed to or not. :)
On another not, don't be surprised to find a plethora of "national emergency" laws (totally unconstitutional) arise after this is over. We only think it's scary now.

Yeah Roger, I know. I've been explaining the "aftermath" and "down-the-road" scenario possibilities to people, but too many are mig welded to that gub'mint tit and don't think it'll effect them.
This isn't effecting you? I ask back....
I have to laugh, there is a name being made for all these people who demand you hide under rocks right now "quarantine Karens". You even mention wanting to do anything that is not akin to vampires hiding from the sun or you know, try and make a living again and it's, "You just want old people to die!" "Money over people!" and "Compassion demands I sacrifice your lifestyle!"
Quote"You just want old people to die!" "Money over people!" and "Compassion demands I sacrifice your lifestyle!"
I got a load of that from my brother in California when I called to wish him a happy birthday the other day. Kinda expected it, he's a union teacher whose last rant to me was when they went on strike for a month to protest charter schools.
Our county "judge" (a 28 year old who isn't really a judge) issued a mandatory mask order a few days ago, complete with arrest threats and fines. The local police union wasn't too happy about that and had no trouble telling her so:
https://pjmedia.com/trending/houston-police-officers-union-to-harris-county-judge-hidalgo-take-your-idiotic-mask-order-and-shove-it/
First time in my life a union ever did something good for me! :disturbed:
Heh, lots of people are telling the "leaders" to shove it. The nanny statists have ran unchecked and they are loving this dictate from on high without question, but that's coming to an end. When people start having to make food stretch because it's not going to be available consistently, there is going to be some serious pushback coming.
We are not under house arrest, but the dept of health has extended the "no social gathering" edict until the end of summer. They advised that all festivals, rodeos, concerts, etc be cancelled!
Yeah, so far they have not cancelled frontier days, but just down south of us the Greeley stampede over the 4th of July has been, 1st time ever IIRC, Yellowstone will be open, but the lodge won't be, no summer baseball for the Legion teams which is big in our area.
I wonder how people are going to adapt to months of their 2 week lockdown.
Our governor has declared its safe to peek out some, they will allow barber shops and gyms to open with proper safe procedures. Of course ABC is running stories about how the death count is way understated, despite them using almost every death aside from trauma in the stats. If objective history is ever taught again, this will be be seen as the largest power grab by govt in history. I am not a conspiracy guy, but you have to truly be in denial to not at the least question the actions we have taken and the reasoning of them. :disgust:
"Overblown" is how I started the conversation with PuddinFace this morning, the politicians saw the true potential of an undeclared suspension of the Constitution once they saw the peasantry stuffing palletloads of Charmin Ultra into the backs of their Escalades.
This permission bullshit is just that. I got into the mask thing with Salcedo yesterday via Messenger, he started using my words on his show, but not in agreement, he claims "freedom has consequences" means nothing in this situation. I've run across so many fairweather patriots in the last weeks, my circle of friends is definitely constricting....Willing to give up rights for a false sense of security...How shallow has this population let itself be led to?...
""freedom has consequences" means nothing in this situation." if liberty means anything at all, it means everything especially when it's stressed and dangerous to exercise it. Otherwise it's simply ruling by elite or majority with NO respect or acknowledgment of inalienable rights, meting out permissions as they see fit.
Here is the test of if it's infringement or justified reaction. For any justification to forcibly abridge the rights of people, you would have to show one is a actual threat, not just a potential one. Quarantining people who are sick or suspected of being so is reasonable, quarantining everyone because they may possibly get infected, is $@*^%! insane.
That is disappointing coming from him, but not particularly shocking considering how many people have simply fell in line because of what they were told was happening and what to do without question. One can start to see how people walked voluntarily into gas chambers.
Especially the forced closing of some businesses, but not all. Cherry picking who gets to prosper and who gets to latch to the tit is NOT right...
We know a family that runs a small Italian hole-in-the-wall eatery over in Fargo. Their governor (R, whatever) has deigned to "allow" restaurants over there to open for inside business, as long as there's never more than 50% of capacity and tables are spread out, every other booth is taped off, and patrons and staff wear masks at all times...first of all, has any of you tried to eat WITH A MASK ON YOUR FACE? I haven't for a pretty good reason. Second, these folks run hand to mouth when the place is bustling, what would be the point of this unless you tripled prices to make up for Lil' Hitlers misinformed political tactics? They've pretty much decided to walk away...what a fookin' crime.
And hey, isn't there a necessity for declaration of martial law or some such shit in order to randomly take peoples rights away?
And nobody, NOBODY, is looking at what all this devastation is going to look like in a year, when ration cards are issued to whom the state deems...eligible...

Oh there are some looking, they are just afraid to bring it to the attention of the reality TV crowd or people will try stuffing closets with ground beef instead of toilet paper. But our supply chain
is broken right now, we are just living off the surplus, and that is running out fast. You are starting to hear here and there the words "food shortage" more and more.
Think about it though, we have a medical crisis that originally had people scared there would not be enough healthcare workers to provide care and now they are being laid off because the rulers decreed no more procedures but what they deemed necessary. The crisis never happened, but instead of going back to normal they insist we all pretend it did. We have high consumer demand for beef and other meat but because the packing plants are shutting down because they have infected people there is no place to go with them so chicken and hogs are simply being killed and dumped as the supply chain piles up, beef producers are hanging onto them so far but it's causing a glut that is making the price bottom fall out. Starting to be talk if they will even have a fall run of calf sales if this does not free up soon. Dairy that has been supported mostly through subsidized markets of govt school food programs and restaurants is having to dump milk and soon will start killing their cows, if they have a place to go with them. The impact of this has not even begun to be felt yet, and its going to be unavoidable and severe when it is.
And for what? The infection rate has not been significantly abated by the shutting down of business that they can prove, they are purposefully skewing the statistics to make it sound worse than what it would if left to actual numbers. The social distancing and disinfection stuff is prudent, but dictating who can come out in public or be open for business is so over the top and harmful it's not even funny. Who is benefitting? Banks, large corps and govt, the rest of us are struggling, like usual. And whats worse, the statists are so giddy they keep hinting this will be the new normal.
That "new normal" BS is really getting on my nerves. Who decided that the normal normal was all that bad?
On the plus side, Texas is opening up, which sounds really weird because we never should have been shut down to start with. Restaurants will be limited to 25% capacity indoor and all their staff will need to be masked. Other business will have to do that social distancing (some Harvard wizard must have gotten paid a lot of money to come up with that term) crap and can also specify whether their staffs and customers need to look like stand ins from a bad ninja movie. All the road tolls that were waived have been reinstated, of course, because they can shut the damn state down but God help us if we aren't paying our taxes while we're all unemployed because of this.
We're still pretty much shut down at work, but at least you won't have to sit in a middle seat because we're blocking them all!! That's assuming you're going to want to fly in the first place. All the cabin crews will have to wear masks, which is a good thing because most of them look better like that anyway!! :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Have they addressed the ventilation issues in those flying petri dishes, Jaime? That's been a nightmare since the first pressurized airliner went up...

This is funny and timely on George Carlin and germs. It's around 6 and a half minute routine.
The gubmint is starting to loosen the noose up here.....some things start opening up tomorrow in a 3 stage plan. If people behave, and infections don't rise, then more businesses will be permitted to resume in 2 weeks........if not, then we are back to square zero.
A positive move, in any case........

Believe it or not, Stetto, the old airplanes are much better about that than the new ones. Older birds like my 727 exchanged all the cabin air with fresh every few minutes, but the newer airplanes recirculate most of it to ease the load on the engine bleed air systems and save fuel. Sort of like selecting your car AC to high mode. There are all sorts of cabin filters that need to be looked at, but they are expensive and way down on the priority list of inspection items (until recently anyway) so the change intervals are pretty high. We'll see how serious they get about that as time goes on. Spreading people out and not selling middle seats isn't going to help much. Opening a window or two might... :disturbed:
We've all been given two extra days off per month (with pay so far) and asked to take extra vacation (though they won't guarantee we can take it), but no telling how long that will last. All the ramp and customer service people are now effectively part time with all the hours that have been cut from their schedules. The flying public is now sufficiently terrified of the flying petri dishes that it will be a very long time before things get anywhere near what they were a few months ago. Early retirement is looking more and more like reality at this point. We'll see....
Ah, the perils of self loading cargo......
Texas is opening up! The beaches in Galveston were jammed yesterday, much to the consternation of the misguided officials in Houston, who have no jurisdiction over Galveston. Most of the restaurants are playing it "safe" with the state mandated 25% occupancy, but I suspect it won't be long before that goes out the window. Still plenty of ninjas walking around. The crime rate will probably go up because when the cops ask if you got a look at the perp, you'll have to say no, because he / she / it was wearing a mask!! :disturbed:
Toilet paper is making a comeback, still can't find disinfectant type cleaners or hand sanitizer. One of the grocery chains here just put a limit on meat purchases because that's the next thing people are going to freak out over.
Some wag on the radio yesterday referred to our illustrious county judge as "that little girl."
Kinda scary with the US being the center of the Covid Universe right now. Last I heard the growth rate was .96...which means for every person that recovers, or dies, .96 new people catch the stupid disease.....
I hope you guys survive this, in spite of the officials........
I just ordered a whole hog from my meat guy, still debating whether we want a mixed quarter or a full side of beef. He processes the hog at +/- $2 per pound, so it ain't exactly free, but beef is starting to become a rarity, so I don't know if a full side isn't a damned good idea. Some fast food outfits have dropped beef from the menu already...
Our farmer of choice is raising a Wagyu/Angus crossbreed this year, canNOT wait to hang a lip on one of those ribeyes!
Heh heh, and Carl, my meat guy would love to come down with me on a hunt....This isn't the first time he's asked...
Ironic, Vicki ordered a 1/2 hog right as the pandemic blew up, but the processor caught fire and most of it was lost, at least the good parts like the cured meat. Thats the 2nd time in 2 years these poor people running the meat business have lost their meat to a fire at the meat processor. :sadness:
No worries Nony, for he most part this a NYC problem more than anything with a few exceptions like Grand island NE who had a packing plant infect a coup0le hundred at once. The rest of us are keeping it mitigated through having a brain for the most part.
The virus in not the main issue, it's the nanny statists that cause the real problem, and there is no cure for them, at least medically approved.
Eric,
Y'all are more than welcome, stop on the way and grab the Honcho and bring him too. I wish I could figure out how to post pics on here.
Getting healthier.....only 2 active cases in our county. Zero in the county to the north of us. BigCity (population 1.5 million) to the west, has only 61 active cases.
Which is perfect timing for the government to announce that they have received their huge order of face masks, and will provide one to every citizen!! .......which should make the paranoid ninja surgeons very happy 🙄
Seems like masks are yesterdays news here, now its testing, can hardly wait until thats mandatory.
Gov'ner Xi here in MN is playing the template: Every 2 weeks he extends his lockup. We're now to June 1, though even the stupid among the citizenry now know better. He's going to do this over and over until either 1) we haul him out and dangle his union stooge ass from a lamp post, or 2) mass defiance has him over the edge into armed enforcement, like is already done elsewhere.
And being as T's accounting service is keeping busy facilitating PPP and EIDL loans for clients, she's been watching the local bankers and figures that, when the politicians are hauled out a LOT of bankers will be among them. There is YUGE dickery going on with the loose financing and .gov ineptitude...
Talking to my son last night...he didn't make the cut and is due to be furloughed at the end of September. The pilot's union had agreed to a 25% pay cut to defer layoffs. He remains hopeful that things will improve....and he is enjoying time at home with his two young daughters.
Flight attendants with less than 21 years of service will be gone.......
Meanwhile, my so-called retirement is spent doing gruelling unpaid labor such as yardwork around the house, as well as vehicle maintenance, and home repairs. Getting a heck of a tan, though.....!
I have taken the early out that was offered, as the company decided they didn't want to pay out my unused sick time, but didn't bother to tell me about it until last week. I get to keep my insurance until the end of the year, as well as a reduced (as in 70% reduced) paycheck until then, after which I will be considered officially retard. It probably won't get any better than that, but I will cut the cord immediately if they decide to start fooling with the pension. The HR lady told me that their job right now was to get as many people out the door as possible, which is a damn fine thing to tell someone who is about to lose their livelihood. So much for company loyalty...
On the bright side, I decided to take a few months to unwind and get my s--t together before I go looking for another job. Wally and I have been clearing out his hangar in preparation for some big RC projects that might actually involve getting paid. And, the summer Bomber Field fly-in is this weekend and I can actually go! :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:
Well that sucks, but I'm afraid there will be many many more that follow. The true cost of this whole shit show will not be seen until about fall I suspect, when unemployment starts running out, seasonal jobs that remained through the virus scare end and consumer spending craters even more than it is. With the back drop of an election with 2 issues preoccupying everyone's attention, unless of course something else minor like an asteroid hitting or something else distracts, this is going to be fun.
However the one constant is cussing hay feeders, there is always that.

Apparently, a certain in-flight service group may, or may not, have been told that the position is not a career, and thus expendable......
In any case, I am quite happy not to have to report to anyone ( other than the Mrs.), and I am beyond happy that I no longer have employees!
