Well after about 30 years of asking what all the time, and even then having to ask what maybe 3 times, I succumbed and went to a hearing Dr. Sure enough, I had profound hearing loss, a little more so in my right ear. I could only understand 72% of the spoken words in my right ear, and 76% in my left ear. so, come August 31, I get a 30 day trial of hearing aids to see if they help me, or if I can stand it, whatever the case may be. Anybody else in this elite group in this situation?
I guess with these newfangled contraptions, I could bluetooth audio from my phone straight to the hearing aids, and other stuff somehow like tv volume, etc. I'm kinda excited, kinda nervous.
Well, I am in the group that needs them I'm sure. I have CHS syndrome (Can't Hear Sh*t). I have been tempted to try some of those mail order ones because the 6 to 8 grand for pro ones has me procrastinating for years now.
My mother who has much more hearing loss than even me, yet refuses to get some, and sadly you can she misses much of what is going on around her, yet she is stubborn about it.
Heck I am at the point I would welcome being able to see and hear like I was young again. Good on ya Ron.
From what I can gather, the latest and greatest, at least what she said was reliable, would be around 3800 bucks. I get a free 30 day trial I assume on generic hearing aids, I have no idea what it will or wont do. I was like you, thought some half decent ones were 6k or better.
I have to say that I don't think my hearing has deteriorated so much.....everyone else insists on mumbling all the time!
I'm due for my second set. I got mine at Costco.....half the price of anywhere else. The bluetooth feature is very handy.......as is the mute function when you are caught in a boring conversation!
And then there's anomalies like me, intentionally pummeling myself with 115dB rock&roll over last 49 years, and my last hearing test came out 20/20, with a very slight drop in high frequency (down to 17 kHz). I say "what" a lot because I don't pay attention.
I am about to lose what's left of my teeth and get bolt-ins installed. So is Terrin. I don't know exactly how I'll do with falsies, but the steak gumming has got to stop!
I have had mine for right at 3 years. I never really knew what I wasn't hearing until I got them. Hummingbirds make a whole lot of noise??
How do the good ones handle wind noise?
Mine are made by Starkey, and the do great job of getting rid of wind noise. Not to say that you wont have wind noise, because you will, but under normal conditions, they do very well. I am about to be ready for a new set.
Lucky so far, about 10% loss and tinnitus on the right side. Having spent a lot of time cuddling up to running airplane engines, I was pretty anal about using hearing protection, but that wasn't quite as good then as it is now. The year before I retired, the company paid for a set of custom molded earplugs for me. I have yet to use them...
So, I'm on my second day with these apparatus's. Trial pair for 30 days. I have to admit I was apprehensive because I associated stuff like this with "old" people. The stigma, you know. But these are pretty small and don't stick out like 30 years ago lol.
So I had to practice to get them in right, just a couple times, and operating instructions. This trial pair is Bluetooth and I can stream music or do phone with them. It's actually pretty cool. And the best thing is...I can hear. I knew I was missing out, but man. I got rechargeable ones. Don't know if that or batteries are better. I charge my phone and watch every night so figured just as well recharge these.
Anyway if you guys who have them have any tips, let 'em rip, but not too loudly lol. I went 30+ years with bad hearing and now I wonder why. Cost has come down substantially and quality way up.
I'm out running the noisy ole ford 4 wd tractor and wearing my Bose noise canceling headphones. Life is good.
What is the battery life on the rechargables?
I was told on these trial pair to expect about 16 hours. So recharge every day like smartphone basically. When I took mine off last night I had about 30 percent left after 16 hours. My Dr mentioned something about a rechargeable lithium battery that last a long time but not sure about time. I gotta go back when my 30 days are up and make a decision whether to get a pair and what kind or to not. It's nice to be able to hear again though. And I know where the mute button is if I don't like something I hear lol.
So, I have a pair of ears ordered. I love being able to hear things again. Haven't heard those annoying crickets for many many years.
One of the cool features is a mute button. Last week the wife and I didn't agree on things and I muted her. You know, the dog house needs a little sprucing up 🤔🙂🙂
Coincidentally, I ordered a set yesterday....bluetooth, rechargeable.....and the portable charger fits in your pocket....
My wife will be happy that she can go back to mumbling instead of talking in a normal voice...
Right or wrong I got the best pair that Unitron has. Bluetooth, streaming, rechargeable, but I don't know what size the case will be. These demo aids I don't think the charger will fit in a pocket. Supposed to take 3 weeks or so and I also paid for custom molded earpieces. I gotta learn this old fogey lingo better I guess.
I will have to go check it out, between not being able to see or hear, its making me cranky.
I found Costco is a fraction of the cost of those hearing boutiques........
I have a Costco ummmmmmm lets call it about 215 miles from me. I have a local Dr here 5 miles from me. I can walk in the front door if I have a problem and get it fixed. Her husband and my son are good friends to, so I think i can slip another cat in the bag lol. She spent close to an hour and a half with me tuning these trial ones for me, until I get my new ones.
Move over you crotchety old geezers.....I'm one of you now! Got my new hearing aids so I can hear everything you're thinking...
What a difference!! I can blissfully ignore the world while listening to Bluetooth tunes, or I can direct them to listen in any specific direction, or all directions, or mute them...lots of options to play around with.........
My new ones are in, but we are in milo harvest and can't take off to go get them. Still have my trial ones.
Now, mine will stream all kinds of music, except country. Nope. Not gonna ruin them with that twangin and such goin on. :icon_lol:
Yeah, that Metallica on volume 9 is why you probably need them now. :disturbed:
Well, well. things finally worked to where I got my brandy knew hearin devices this afternoon. Unitron brand because thats what my local dr likes for service and reliability. I can stream from a bluetooth audio source, tap the top of my ear twice to answer the phone, and tap twice to hang up when done and never have to pull the phone out if I dont want to. All kinds of settings on the phone app.
I used demonstrator ones for 2 months. They quit and I had to go back to the ole what? What did you say? routine for a couple days. I felt lucky they lasted as long as they did before the demo ran out. It really sucked not being able to hear much.
And boy howdy Onepoint, I'll have you know that 8 1/2 was tops, well mebbe 8 3/4, well ok I may have hit 8 and 10/10 a few times :disgust:
Check this out Ron: I got recommended to this band

You think Metallica was ear-splitting?
My audition is tomorrow, will let y'all know how this old hi'billy does...
So the voices in your head should be a lot clearer now..... :icon_lol:
Yeah, Stetto, I can listen to that.
