Saturday morning one of my cows gave birth to a gorgeous 1/2 Wagyu heifer. Sunday afternoon momma wasn't acting normal, yesterday I loaded her up and took her to the vet. He didn't find anything out of the ordinary, but her her a shot of antibiotics, and some pain medication.
We brought her home and put her in a pen with her baby. This morning when we checked on her she was dead!
We are now trying to get one of the other cows to adopt her, in the meantime we are supplementing her feed by bottle feeding her.
Sorry Carl, I hate that. One of the tough things about this business is they die from time to time no matter how hard you try and save them. I have had cows die from something like that, like internal bleeding from calving, to hardware disease to stupid things like get upside down in a ditch and die before I found them in the morning.
Bad enough to lose a cow that you like, but the financial side of it is not insignificant with the prices right now.
Sorry Carl. Farming ain't easy to begin with...😥
