While I was still in bed wondering why mornings come so dang early, heard our turkeys we have raised, going off oustide in their pen and was thinking we had a fox or something. So as I pried my eyes open and look out I see this-

About 23 wild hens and toms came for a visit. We have turkeys in the area, we have had a couple wild hens that have came to live in the yard with ours, but I have never seen this large of flock of them away from the river bottom which we are several miles from with a just a few tree lines between. Pretty amazing they can be around and stay so elusive without a lot of cover.
Here I thought it was gonna be something in a liquid form...... :eusa_think: :icon_razz: :icon_razz:
We see a lot of that up here.
Growing up I not only never saw wild turkeys (Ron, the one you're thinking of uses Capital Letters), but never gave them any thought, because we HAD no wild turkey up here.
Then at some point in the 80s some brain surgeon at the MN DNR decided to release 20 birds that are not indiginous to this part of the country into a national wildlife refuge about 15 miles east of me, to "see if they could survive the extremes in seasonal change"...
Now they litter the ditches in threes, fours and more, I see around a dozen a week.
In the winter they group up around the local farmers' silage piles--I've seen a few HUNDRED at one time...
I think they are getting so plentiful that they are getting shoved out of their natural habitats--Not necessarily a good sign.
Up here, they compete with the deer for forage, also not a good sign, as the deer don't need the competition. But you can't tell these rocket scientists at the DNR anything, they think the state is their own personal chemistry set.
Oh, but we now have a turkey season (two of 'em!)...
