Douglas A1-D Skyraider
Known as Spad, Sandy and
a few others, these aircraft and their pilots
applied their talents in the not so friendly skies over Korea and Vietnam, and in doing
so gained the respect and even admiration of warbird lovers.
No clean lines to give
the impression of a Thoroughbred, just brute strength,
lots of ordinance and more than enough endurance made them brutally efficient at what they excelled at,
Close Air Support. I am willing to bet, not one downed pilot was ever disappointed to see the Sandy's escorting their ticket home.
Eventually this page will be dedicated to models of the beloved Spad.
