So the better half had an idea. It was time (and I agreed for some ridiculous reason) for the 1970's vintage wall paneling in our living room to go. So I took it down, fully expecting to have to replace all the sheetrock behind it. But it wasn't as bad as I thought, and, much as I LOVE doing sheetrock, I had a couple of my countrymen come over and do it for me. And they did a damn fine job, too!
Then she decided she wanted to paint. No, wait a sec....she wanted ME to paint. That was ok, until it turned into the whole house. Remember, this was supposed to be the living room. Which is 27 by 15. And she wants the ceilings done too. 12 foot vaulted. And the kitchen And the hallway. And the front door. No, ALL the doors. And new light fixtures. And a new toilet, one of those "turbocharged comfort height" ones. She wants it done by Christmas so she can show off her house to everyone. And then she toddles off to see clients and leaves me with the hunnydoo list from hell.
So, I have most of the entryway and hall done. She's miffed because she can't put the tree up yet because I have the electrical outlet that it's supposed to be plugged into hanging out of an as yet unpainted wall. There are no doors on the front hall closets because I haven't been able to clone myself yet. She bought me a power roller (I was kinda hoping for a Dodge Challenger) as an incentive. And the only thing I am wondering is, where are all my white guy painter friends when I need them? :icon_mrgreen:
BTW - my daughter in law is an interior decorator, so our paint colors have been selected by a professional!!
I know what you're going to ask. No, we don't have a basement. I'd take pictures, but I think the camera is on the bumper of the truck... :sadness:
Oh man!!!! Didn't you show here the Guy manual where it explicitly states that the absolute worst time for home renos is between Jan and Dec !!!! Even attempting any kind of home improvement project during this black out period is going to result in delays, cost overruns, supplier issues......not to mention labor issues......... You're just asking for trouble there, my friend...... I mean Stetto tried it, and look what happened to him!! :eusa_sick:

Some of your countrymen are amazing craftsmen. It's the cilantro that sets my teeth on edge...

Yessir, welcome to my world. By the way, when you talk about a "vaulted" ceiling, is it 12 feet at the high end or the low end? Yes, it matters...

I sincerely hope you are doing ceilings FIRST. If not, it is a lesson best learned only once....And I don't know about your other white guy painter friends, but this white guy painter friend is currently painting 9-lite wood windows--OUTSIDE--On a remote lake home about 40 miles south of me. The customer demanded it, is willing to pay for tenting and propane and time watching paint dry, so there I am. I have never painted outside when the temps were in the single digits (that'd be farenheit, Nony), but it's actually kinda cool...
re: the Dodge: I tried that once and was told to "hope in one hand, ____ in the other, see what fills up first"...

Being as she's family I will refrain from giving you my biased opinion of decorators and architects...

Darn. And I was just about to ask... :eusa_think:

Don't think for a minute that you can agitate me into coming down there. I will wish
wallpaper upon you...All it would take is a call to Pat...
Please tell me that I'm not the only one who sees snow...
Yaaaaavollll I shee der schnow too.
Yes, you see snnn...........sssssssnn.......these little white dots floating serenely across the computer screen. Very funny, Honcho...... :icon_mrgreen:
Stetto:
1. Cilantro is life. Grandma's tacos just wouldn't be the same without it.
2. 12 feet at the high end. There's a beam there. And six feet in the attic above that to the roof.
3. Yes, ceilings first. Believe it or not, I learned that from my Grandpa more years ago than I care to admit to.
4. The Dodge...well, it is the season and I do so deserve it. But I suspect (I think it's an accountant thing), that Pat would say exactly what Terrin did. No respect for working men..... :eusa_wall:
5. Basements flood here. Someone I know had that problem once...
6. Wallpaper? Too late. She put one of those borders around the kitchen ceiling 15 years ago that has to come down before I can paint. I'm going to leave it for now, because it masks the wall to ceiling joint perfectly, so I don't have to waste another roll of masking tape. But if you're volunteering to take it down..... :icon_biggrin:
7. I can't diss my decorators. They're family, and besides, they're FREE!!
What the heck...Nony, you leave the door open again?
If it gets annoying, you can shut it off in your profile layout preferences.
snowin' outside, and snowin' inside........ gotta love it (as long as you're not painting windows.......)
