It seems we have worn out another vehicle to the point you question reliability. I guess Taurus wagons don't hold up well to dirt roads and hauling bags of grain. They just don't make family truckster 4000s like they used to. We decided to get a real truck this time, that way at least when its all worn out, its still a truck. Unfortunately I found that making 1995 income means I can't afford 2015 prices, or in many cases 2005 prices for that matter.
We wanted a crewcab, and I wanted to try Dodge for a change, well there is not that many Dodges around that either affordable or not pre worn out. I had resigned myself to a long time of shopping to run across the right deal or saving more, or robbing a couple liquor stores after looking at about everything for sale in a 200 mile radius.
The 2nd ad I ran across was for a 03 F150 4x4 in Sidney NE, I didn't really pursue it because it had 113k miles, and I really wanted to stay under 70k if I could. I found a couple but they were $18k or so, and just simply out of the budget for payments. This one was $10k, so I called the dealer and chatted about it. One owner, town driving etc. We went down to take a look, and besides some minor cosmetic stuff on the exterior from the miles, it was rock solid, with a very clean interior in great shape for the use. So it came home. In retrospect, its probably a better deal for us, payments are low, and term short that it will be paid off long before we have worn it out.
That is a nice looking pickup... er truck. I see nothing wrong with letting someone else buying the new and taking the hit in their own checkbook. Last year the farm updated pick.. er trucks here and I have a 2004 f150 4 door and had 118,000 miles on it. Works fine. You will like that vehicle you got and besides, taxes and insurance sure are a lot less than new or almost new.
Oh yeah, much cheaper, I just came back from getting the plates. Its hard to call it a pickup with that itty bitty bed, I had to force myself to call it a truck. :eusa_think:
But it works out great, lots of room inside, and still enough room in the bed to haul grain or lumber etc. the only down side is a the 16mpg it gets with the 5.4, but it does scoot along pretty good. :disturbed:
Needs some mud on it, but other than being clean...and a Ford...it looks like you did ok.
That will change soon enough, we had a dry spell, as soon as that's over I will have to drive somewhere and it will look like its been boggin'.
Good looking truck, Honcho. Now all you need are some big ol' mud tires, a cactus smasher on the front and the little doggie in the back with the head that bobs up and down.
Some lighted curb feelers might be nice, too! :icon_mrgreen:
Heheh, I'll skip the neon LEDs underneath and settle for it to stay running and in one piece for while.
Nice ...very nice.. We got an '03 gmc crew cab for hauling the trailer. Same sort of deal...it was used, but has lots of life left in it, and fit in our tiny buget. My favorite vehicle to drive......except for the mileage.
Still, that is very clean truck you got there, Honcho. I bet it looks good in the driveway.
You still got that little flatbed??
Yeah, still have the white flatbed, thinking of swapping the bed over to another one and retiring it though.
