20° with light snow this morning. Back in northwest Minnesota for a time, thought I'd snuck past the lion part of March, but not quite. Funny thing about this neck of the woods: no matter the forecast, it usually turns out a measure worse. Makes Texas mighty appealing.

I'll get back down there, just not sure quite when.

We had another low 90s day yesterday.  Had troubles calving a cow the day before, it was breach and upside down, had to get a vet out to get her out. But turned out OK.  The calf was weak and didn't get up and suck so we have been working on it to get it going, finally had to get the cow in a head catch and teach the calf to nurse, what a pain that is. Then had another that was struggling because the mom is an old cow and has large teats and wouldn't suck on any but 1.  When its hot like this it doesn't take much for the babies to get dehydrated, and it was pretty pinched up.  So another cow in the head catch, all this after 3 of the neighbors cows and calves hopped the fence and got mixed with mine, and he came to sort them out so I couldn't feed until all that was done, which was almost dark by then.

Finally sometime after dark we got to come in and eat dinner wondering why we are doing this.

But today is supposed to be back in the 50s, still no rain but at least its not scorching everything, and they are hinting we may see some sprinkles next week. Never seen a winter in this region this dry and warm in my entire life.

Its 86 and a good breeze here today, dry as a bone in the Mojave summer. Hard to acclimate to that so soon.

Sounds like you're ready to move to Texas!

This more like it - 79 degrees, clear and sunny.  And no mosquitos yet....

It's funny how we all we all categorize different parts of the country

whatever it is, these young men are "in it" and it will shape their lives. To this day, I would swear that Lawton Oklahoma is the biggest hell hole on earth  :icon_mrgreen:

Living where I do now ( Monroe Wa, north of Seattle which is Portland Oregon lite) I'm ready to get the heck out of dodge. The political scene, and extreme liberal population is the last straw for me.

I'm ready for slow, and quiet. even though I have no delusions that life itself is just as hard, and even harder in some cases.  It's just the level of drama people want to deal with.

I'm "tribal", and tend to want to find my type of people. I'm more of live, and let live... I don't care to tell people what to do, and I appreciate the same in return.  :icon_mrgreen:

I lived and worked in Cheyenne Wyoming for 3 years.

If they gave the earth an enema, Cheyenne Wyoming is where they'd stick it in....

We went from one extreme to the other, was 75 yesterday and the wind died down to tolerable, and it felt pretty warm, today and the rest of the week is 80s, and maybe a 90 thrown in, and I think I'm going to melt.

FE Warren i.e. Cheyenne isn't so bad as it used to be for social life, Ft Collins is 40 minutes down the road so long as the roads are good to travel with all kinds of bars and stuff to do for people used to cities. It's like Denver lite anymore. It's a liberal hell hole now, but has a diverse night life.  But for outdoors there is plenty to do, Vedauwoo and Curt Gowdy state park just outside of town on the way to Laramie has a lot of stuff to do from rock climbing and hiking to fishing for day trips.

The airman bars, i.e. strip clubs have had a set back with an old iconic one called the Green Door that had been around for 60 years shutting down the last year, still one down on state line.  They are tame by comparison of the ones up in Rapid City which probably isn't such a bad thing.  Several brew pubs and burger places now that have good food that never used to be there.

It is a small town despite being WYs largest, so it is limited, but its not so isolated they can't find things to do. But its tough adjustment for the kids coming from urban centers, who tend to end up hating it, but will wear it like a combat tour and talk about the winter there for 40 years after.

Minot just about dried up for several years, but the oil boom brought it back to life somewhat, but even at best its a cold windy isolated place only North Dakotans could appreciate, and maybe make sad jokes about lutefisk. Of the 2 Warren is the lucky draw.

36 degrees here last night, wind chill in the upper 20s.  The weather guessers assure me that this is the last cold weather of the year.  Sure hope so, I'm getting too old for that s--t!

I was a military contractor in my younger days, so spent some time at several air force bases.  My favorite was Pope AFB in North Carolina.  Myrtle Beach SC wasn't far and if I wanted to see different airplanes I could bop over to Seymour Johnson and watch the 4th TFW Phantoms do their thing.  The most interesting gig was at what I consider my "home" base, Holloman AFB in New Mexico, which is not far from my home town.  The 49th TFW was there, Phantoms early on and F-15s later. Also been to Hurlburt Field and Eglin AFB in Florida, and Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.  That was a long time ago....

If you haven't been to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Pat, you need to go.  Well worth the trip!
