We got 1.2 inches this morning!  Yesterday it 80, today the high is 55.

We got about 2 inches of rain over the past couple of days, with a little more expected mid-week.  We needed it, but I'll be happy when the sun comes back.  It's been kinda nice not having any mosquitos... :icon_mrgreen:

Had a couple of rounds of severe weather last night. Two different tornadoes spun up about 5 miles from our house. Lots of places had golf ball to baseball size hail.  Thankfully we didn't get any of that.  Did get 1" of rain.

MrGoodwreck

Were getting hammered with winds, and ice storms but nothing like you all.

I'm getting more of a kick out of my kid who is stationed in Minot, and the weird weather they are ( or are not) getting.

Just when you think winter is done, someone up north leaves the gate open. 46 degrees last night, windchill was in the upper 30s. It's warming back up (we'll be back in the 80s by tomorrow), but it's still windy enough to be blowing branches off the trees.

And it rained just enough that I have to mow the damn grass....again.... :disturbed:

Heck we are 64 degrees right now, and 60 MPH gusts.  :eusa_wall: It was steady at 55 for a bit.  Its a brown out again. I know its WY and all, but maybe we can lay off the extreme weather for a while?

70-something yesterday. This morning? 23° with a projected high of 29°. Wind of 25mph.
80s by the end of the week.

Minnesota bound in a week or so, then ?

Onepoint

Yeah 73 yesterday, 8 degree windchill this morning and a dusting of snow which they said wasn't going to happen. Be short lived though, 70 tomorrow, 80s the rest of week, one day flirting to 90s.

And the wind has been horrific even by WY standards the lasty few weeks. 39 trucks tipped over in one day in a 100 mile stretch, 9 of them in a 6 mile stretch by Arlington WY,  an d 3 in one spot on a Hill just south of Cheyenne, Crazy stuff.

About 60 miles east of me as a crow flies a grass fire started during some 70mph wind that snapped a power pole, and has consumed nearly 550k acres by now, which is bigger than the OK and KS fire earlier this year, and no containment, moving so fast I read its jump ahead of trucks before they can setup or make a line. Running SE with the wind down the North side of the Platte river.

It's been pretty windy here as well.  We'll be in the upper 30s again tomorrow night, but are expecting sustained winds at 20-25mph and gusts up to 40.  At least all that wind is blowing the pollen north and east!  Back in the 80s by midweek.

MrGoodwreck

Actually got some snow.... Well overdue.

In other news,

My son is stationed at Minot, and has been for the last year. His buddy ( may aswell be my 2'nd son) just graduated his Air Force tech school, and got orders to FE Warren AFB.

I get a little bit of a chuckle, because they both were in it " For Adventure!"..

Poor kids  :icon_mrgreen:

What, WY is not an exotic far off place?  :disturbed:

The way the wind has been this year, if he brings a kit to strap on his back, he can be a pilot too!

Wyoming would actually be on my list of places to retire.

The National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois is amazing, and I would give my left nut to be able to get a "Retirement Job" there. :icon_mrgreen:

The boys are just a touch past 21, after listening ( And seeing ) the environment that my son is in...

It's so much different than what I experienced.  I was stationed in exotic places such as San Antonio Texas ( 10/10) with lots to do outside of work. " Almost got hitched to a gal from Plentywood Montana there. ( We are still very good friends to this day, and even have several mutual friends though we grew up in different states).

Ft Sill Oklahoma was just OK, not much to do. I did go to my very massage place there  :eek5: other than that, I did my very best to blow that base off the face of the earth with artillery shells, along with dumping every blank round of ammo I was ever issued ( they would make your rifle so dirty...mine always seemed easy to clean)  :icon_mrgreen:

Ft Irwin in California was a desert hell, and HOT... lots of time in the field playing a grown up version of capture the flag, and other than a bowling alley trips to vegas was a fun weekend. it was okay..

Yakima Training Center playing with tracked mortars, and flying around as a flight medic was fun.

All of those places had things to do on base, and the food wasn't bad. Always had girls to hang out with.

Minot AFB has NOTHING... The Movie theater is has been closed down for several years, the Chow Hall is so small, and just garbage for food ( Air Force always had great food, and lots to do when I was on their bases) My boys live is pretty much... Goto turn wrenches in B-52's, go do some PT, goto sleep, repeat. The city of Minot is small ( I like it) but nothing really to do.

I have a buddy that was at FE Warren, and said its pretty small, and not much else to do for young Airmen aswell.

They really have seemed to change since I was in the military. No real clubs, or was to socialize... Everyone just does their job, and plays in their computers.

Both the boys like to hike, and camp. They dabble in hunting, and fishing. ( thats good, except for the hoops to jump through to get a rifle onto base, since they live in the dorms). My kid told me that he wanted to go on a hike one day, and there are no mountains for 8 hours drive, and the average age if single women is 75 :D

I look forward to seeing how Ethan does in Wyoming. Both the kids are laughing because they can each drive 5 hours to meet up in the middle if they want to meet up for a hike, or hunting weekend. lol

36 degrees here last night, wind chill in the upper 20s.  The weather guessers assure me that this is the last cold weather of the year.  Sure hope so, I'm getting too old for that s--t!

I was a military contractor in my younger days, so spent some time at several air force bases.  My favorite was Pope AFB in North Carolina.  Myrtle Beach SC wasn't far and if I wanted to see different airplanes I could bop over to Seymour Johnson and watch the 4th TFW Phantoms do their thing.  The most interesting gig was at what I consider my "home" base, Holloman AFB in New Mexico, which is not far from my home town.  The 49th TFW was there, Phantoms early on and F-15s later. Also been to Hurlburt Field and Eglin AFB in Florida, and Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.  That was a long time ago....

If you haven't been to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Pat, you need to go.  Well worth the trip!

Onepoint

We went from one extreme to the other, was 75 yesterday and the wind died down to tolerable, and it felt pretty warm, today and the rest of the week is 80s, and maybe a 90 thrown in, and I think I'm going to melt.

FE Warren i.e. Cheyenne isn't so bad as it used to be for social life, Ft Collins is 40 minutes down the road so long as the roads are good to travel with all kinds of bars and stuff to do for people used to cities. It's like Denver lite anymore. It's a liberal hell hole now, but has a diverse night life.  But for outdoors there is plenty to do, Vedauwoo and Curt Gowdy state park just outside of town on the way to Laramie has a lot of stuff to do from rock climbing and hiking to fishing for day trips.

The airman bars, i.e. strip clubs have had a set back with an old iconic one called the Green Door that had been around for 60 years shutting down the last year, still one down on state line.  They are tame by comparison of the ones up in Rapid City which probably isn't such a bad thing.  Several brew pubs and burger places now that have good food that never used to be there.

It is a small town despite being WYs largest, so it is limited, but its not so isolated they can't find things to do. But its tough adjustment for the kids coming from urban centers, who tend to end up hating it, but will wear it like a combat tour and talk about the winter there for 40 years after.

Minot just about dried up for several years, but the oil boom brought it back to life somewhat, but even at best its a cold windy isolated place only North Dakotans could appreciate, and maybe make sad jokes about lutefisk. Of the 2 Warren is the lucky draw.

I lived and worked in Cheyenne Wyoming for 3 years.

If they gave the earth an enema, Cheyenne Wyoming is where they'd stick it in....
