Thought I'd get a couple years without a major medical situation since that distal bicep rupture in 2015.
I just got home from the treadmill & an echocardiogram, had 7 blood samples and an EKG taken yesterday. They're lookin' for something to cut off or install, I just betcha....
...and if the doc mentions "bypass" just one more time I'm gonna knock his pecker in the dirt...
Yep, not good. Sister in law had by-pass surgery yesterday.
Biggest problem I have is the floor gets farther and farther away every time I have to tie my shoelaces......
Well, knock on wood, other than becoming an anti social, anti govt curmudgeon shaking my cane at young people, I have skipped anything major medically for a while. But take care of that heart thing, you don't get along to good without it.
Were you feeling poorly, or they just catch it by chance?
Started having trouble catching my breath over the simplest of tasks. Blood test showed an extreme high level of ferritin, so today I got a call from the regional cancer clinic wanting blood samples, and yeah, my cholesterol is a wreck waiting to happen.
And I'm gaining weight walking past a Jack in the Box. They're checking for clogged arteries, hardened arteries, liver disease/cancer and something called hemochromatosis, which supposedly ties all the above together AND messes with the pancreas, hence the sudden weight issues.
I was already anti social, anti government, pro curmudgeon and antagonistic to the kiddies.
My YOUNGER brother had a pretty massive stroke just before Thanksgiving, still hasn't regained a flipping thing on his left side. I guess I just started paying closer attention to what was squeaking the loudest in me....
Hey Carl, wish your sis-in-law the best for me. I still plan to come alleviate you of a hog or two, Terrin says ok, so be on the lookout.
...Unless they do a bypass. Then give me a couple weeks... :icon_wink:
*Oh, and unless they call me beforehand with dire news, I have a followup with my personal GP on the 14th. The closer I get to that without a call, the less nervous I'll be.

She doing well, even though they couldn't complete the by-pass on the "widow maker". Every time they attempted it, 3 times, the arterial graft would fail! They finally quit trying and hooked it back up like it was. They are going to put a stent in it at a later date. We have plenty of hogs, so come on. I have trapped 116 so far, with 83 of those being trapped in February!!
I'm not complaining either, except Pat took my cane when she had her knee surgery a few years ago and never gave it back, so I have nothing to shake at the kids. Pretty much medical drama free here, though I sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies snapping crackling and popping when I get up in the morning :eek5:
Don't let any of that stuff go too long Stetto, especially if there's history in your family of any of that. There are still Fubar reunions to attend...

No. Cardio. Issues. That's out of the way....*whew*
Now I wait on this ferritin result, which was 5 times normal....Apparently more is not better in that regard.
I can start eating bacon & ribs without that guilty pang again! :eusa_clap: 8)

Good news for me after 3 years of rabbit food, low sodium, low sugar, no desserts and reading the ingredient labels on every food product.....my blood chemistry is back to nromal! Now I have to keep it there....

Not so much a hobby, as a choice between that or liver and kidney failure.... Eating has always been one of my favorite pastimes - don't get me wrong.....I just had to aquire a taste for less sugar, fat, and salt. Fortunately, steak is still okay, and I do get to cross the line once in awhile and have a dessert.
My choice, I agree, but I've got too many things left to do before checking out of this hotel...
For instance I have someone's graduation to attend 17-1/2 years from now....
Well, eating is about to become a new art form for me...I just saw a hematologist, who unbeknownst to me had one of my myriad blood drawings made into a genetic study. I indeed have the markers for hemochromatosis, which, the doc says, covers a LOT of potential symptoms, sleep loss and unexplained weight gain included.
I also have some liver "damage". He wouldn't elaborate, but ordered an MRI to determine if I can donate blood or not. Either way I'm now doomed to regular phlebotomies until my iron levels are good.
ALSO, little to no more high iron foods, which includes a mainstay of my diet, wild game, especially venison. That will be hard.
Hemochromatosis is hereditary, so now the rest of my family is being notified that a blood test is advised. They already suspect it may have had a lot to do with my brother's stroke.
...and being first in the family diagnosed, of course I'm the bad guy.... :disgust:
But the bright side! I may start getting back to a serviceable weight and get some damm sleep!
I just googled that, looking at what it is and the treatment, bring out the leeches! The doctor will of course be required to wear the obligatory bird beak mask and carry burning incense too.
Or maybe we can go with alternate therapy and wrap you up in magnets. :icon_biggrin:

Good news, MRI came back negative for cancer anywhere in my guts, including pancreas, liver, gall bladder, stomach, blah & woof.
Definitely gonna invest in some leeches though. Closest blood bank is 70 miles.

Been away for a while, as another of the drags of growing old manifests itself. Pat's mom passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, so we were home again for yet another funeral. Turns out she had congestive heart disease, which we think she knew about but didn't seek treatment or tell anyone about it. So please, everyone, don't wait around to see the docs if you're ailing and go for an annual physical. We're just getting old enough not to.
Sorry for you and Pat's loss, Jaime. I was actually surprised that I don't have a heart issue. The blood/iron thing ties me to a lot of symptoms, some heart related. I simply caught it before I laid waste to myself.
Glad everyone is doing relatively well. My wife lost her father 2 weeks ago, so we know what Jaime and family is going through. Our condolences to your family.
He had been not doing well for 2 1/2 years and her mother is not well either. She is 92 and he was just short of 95. We have spent a lot of time in the what we call "long term care" facility the last couple years. Wife and I think we be better off living on a cruise ship when our time comes :)
Sorry to hear for both of you. Vickis mom was diagnosed with congestive heart failure over a year ago, said there was nothing they could really do for her, she can hardly walk, has a lot of pain low energy etc. And to be honest she is one of these people who even when told whats wrong won't belive it and starts blaming past injuries or illness and thinking there is a pill that will fix her and refuses to do anything or make any changes at all to help herself or even feel better. But Vicki took her to the doc this week, and he said there is no sign of congestive heart failure now. :eusa_think: OK, I kind of thought they way they were talking it was not something you 'got over'. She is in poor health so it's not like a miracle cure or anything, but man you wonder about the healthcare we get some days even when you go.
I'm on day two of trying to talk ANYBODY into taking a pint of 0-negative blood from me. United Blood Services thinks I'm contagious because they never heard of haveahomotoastus, I can't in touch with the people who can explain it to them, I may as well be at the VA.
I might as well go to the local bait shop and get blood drawn.... :eusa_doh: :eusa_wall:
Been a rough 2 months. Lost father in law Easter weekend, and last Friday my mother died. And of course neither's health were too good so nothing unexpected. Except mom, we thought she had more time butonce she got in the hospital this last time her organs shut down. My dad found her laying on the floor without her oxygen mask last Thursday morning and called 911 and put her oxygen mask back on but she was cold but still alive. Oxygen perked her up and we got to visit with her Thursday and Friday morning a couple of times then she would fade out again. It was tough being in the room hearing her last breaths. Life goes on.

Sorry to hear Ron, it's hard to watch as someone health fails, we are going through it with Vickis mom now.
