Had the pleasure of enduring decreasing vision over the past two years due to minor cataracts and some problems in the retina in the right eye. Neither was bad enough to warrant any corrective procedures, but the combination made life miserable...couldn't read signs, everything was blurry,,,in fact legally I should not have been driving....Finally the specialists decided that I was a candidate for cataract surgery..  Got the first one done this morning...
Now being the squeemish type, it was nothing that I was really looking forward to, but the alternative of living in a blurry world was losing its appeal, so I had no choice but to go through with it. The procedure was only ten minutes, uncomfortable (probably due to my mental state) but not painful.... so the recovery begins, and things are looking better (in more ways than one...) the next eye gets done next week...

Nony,

I feel your pain. Had both my eyes done. I know it feel so weird, but the end result is worth it. Now I only have reading glasses that I keep leaving all around the house.  :eusa_wall:

They haven't figured out how to stop that durn ol' aging process yet.

Onepoint

Not much worse than having limited vision.  You miss a lot of whats going on around you. Hope in a couple weeks the PITA aspect will be out of mind because the world will be sharp again.

WOW!  I can't believe the difference!!! everything is bright and clear. The big noticeable change is that what is bright white in my (now) good eye are a pale yellow in my bad eye (which was the better of the two before..) I can't wait to get the other eye done!

Buzzardbeak

I'd forgot about the 2 color thing. That was weird with something changing color depending on which eye you are looking out of. The end result is definitely worth the effort.

I had thought that those stripes down the middle of the road were dirty yellow.  After my cataract surgery I found out they are bright white.  Cool.

After about 6 months to a year, things may start to look blurry.  Not to worry like I did.  The sac holding the lens may fog up on the back side.  All your doc needs to do is use his/her trusty, rusty laser and burn a small hole in it.  Big enough to let light through but small enough to keep the lens in place.  Less time than the surgery and result is instantaneous.

Thanks, they warned me of the small possibilty of that side effect.....hope I'm exempt...

Glad for you Nony...Dunno if I could let someone else touch my eyes...Haven't been to an optomotrist since 2003, and but for the walking into walls, doors, furniture etc., you'd never know... :disturbed:

balsum fractus

Y'know, that is the part that had me freaked out....but the choice came down to seeing or not seeing squat, so I had to go through with it.
Vision in my right eye is getting better every day, and the difference between that and my yet-to-be touched eye is incredible!  Second eye gets done on Friday, so I expect to be able to see through walls!

everything except lead!

PS.  Eyeglasses restriction removed from drivers license.  Wore glasses for some 50 years.  I never wore contacts as I didn't want anything coming anywhere near my eyes.  Felt kinda nakkid without the glasses for quite a while.

Exactly!!!!! Neither would I....

I'm betting I will be able to toss the glasses, but won't know for sure for 3 or 4 weeks...

Frazz

hope all goes well with the second one nony.  glad the first one turned out well.  I may be in the same position sometime

To understand true love, lock your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour and then see which one is glad to see you when you come back

BTW, you'd better get a pair of sunglasses if you don't already have them.  It's BRIGHT out there now.

balsum fractus

oh yeah, is it ever!!!!  Fortunately my Doc provides a kit with dark sunglasses, eye patch and exceptionally clear step  by step instructions.  I even have to wear sunglasses inside in bright rooms. .....but I don't mind for now........

#2 eye got done today....so far so good, although I definitely could feel him poking around in there this time (not a @# thing I could do about it either!!) We'll see how it fares tomorrow after a good nights rest.........
