Lots of hubbub over Dylans graduation this weekend, parents burning it at both ends to get it done....Oh, and Kaitlyn has her drivers permit. Last weekend she thought she'd add to the chaos.

Terrin bought a 2013 Dodge Journey about three weeks ago, nice ride with a cockamamie 8 inch touch screen in the dash. Push button start, bell here, whistle there. She'd been allowing the Face to log driving time on it, and until last Saturday she was doing real well. But she was getting a little cocky about it, like kids do...

She undercompensated a left turn @ around 25 MPH and Daisy Duked over the edge of the road and into a 5 foot deep ditch. Front end pretty hatched. The girls are OK, but they may total the vehicle because the frame might be kinked. It's the second day of waiting for the insurance to call, and usually the longer the wait, the worse the news.

Terrin hasn't even made the first payment. She also made the mistake (like a lot of R/C flyers) of falling in love with her car.

It's going to be a summer. And the Puddinface seems to have bypassed lessons learned and humility gained... :disgust:

Ouch!  Hope Terrin and Puddinface are ok.  All four of my kids did their bangups early - two totaled cars (neither one their fault, thankfully), one brush with a concrete pillar in a parking lot (that one cost me my entire company bonus check that year), and the pulling into the parking space, hitting the car behind you then overreacting and hitting the car in front of you as well.

I hate those damn touch screens.

Well that sucks. Been there too. We had got a pretty good deal on a 2wd Tacoma for Vickis mail route, but ended up being Kaylas when she got her licence, had it for almost a year, but she smacked a deer coming home and they totaled it.  Got enough out of it to buy a 03 Escape. She had it for the rest of high school, and into college, but last fall was tailgating, (something I had harped on her about when I rode with her, but of course I don't know anything being old and all :eusa_doh: ), ran into the back of someone and crumpled the hood and pushed the radiator support back, and they totaled it too.  :eusa_wall:  However since I know of an ex bodyman, I pulled the radiator support back out and replaced the hood and she is still driving it and I hope every time she looks at the black primer hood she remembers why its there.

These new cars are not made to be fixed at all, if you can't replace a panel with minor damage they hardly can be fixed anymore.  of course even worse when it was momma's new car.  But alas, this too shall pass.

It seems to be one of the costs of raising kids they forgot to tabulate. And being as this is Mom's fault for letting Kaitlyn drive it, she'll be rewarded with a 60% surcharge on her insurance premium. One way or another these "insurance" companies make you pay for it anyway.

Day 3 and we are still waiting to hear. I'm going to make a call of my own shortly.....

Our insurance the 1st time was progressive, and it actually was handled great, they even paid more for the totaled truck than we did.  :icon_cool:  But the second time we had switched to travelers, they still handled it great but paid far less than market value for the escape, it only cost us a $1000 from that to buy it back though so we came out far ahead, and surprisingly neither one jacked our rates, though travelers already had us bundled in the house insurance which was pretty expensive to start with.  Insurance is such a scam anyway most times the way its structured. When you have to buy something it never is efficient.

I called the shop a bit ago. The frame is fine, not a nick in it. Except for some radiator replacement needed it looks like it's all cosmetic, the "bumper" needs replaced as well as a lot of plastic, which to me is what that "bumper" is made of. We should have it back in a week.

The question on everyone's lips, including our adjuster, is why the airbags didn't deploy. I asked the car guy to check them out and find out if they're any good to begin with.
