After a very long family discussion with Pat and the kids over the weekend,  I have decided that trying to ride this thing out with my current employer is not a very good option and have decided to retire.  Part of that was driven by the possible loss of my pension, the rest by the fact that there are layoffs coming and I'm not sure I'm not on that list.  Either way, staying was the worst of the options, so after 33 years I'm leaving the airline world behind.  I have no idea what I'll be doing next, as I thought I would have a little more time to think about it.  At this point, the only thing I'm really worried about is health insurance.  My last day at work is Saturday, I'll officially separate the company on September 30th after using up all my accrued sick time.  It's funny - getting this job was a big surprise way back in 1987 and it's just as much a surprise leaving.

It's either the dumbest thing I've ever done or the smartest...

:eek5:  I mean if you are going to quit so early in the career and all, I guess it's a good thing.  Maybe you can get a job at walmart or something.  :disturbed:  Congrats?

As long as you can pay the bills, or get the kids to support you, it will be great!!

You had a good run with them schmucks then, welcome to the rest of the story...

We wish you well, Jaime. There should be a big retirement party, don't you think? I know someone with a hayfeeder we can all come watch you fly into....

Wish you well.  Now when I listen to Dave Ramsey Show on everyday millionaires, we can hear your story.

This wasn't even on my radar a few months ago before all this flu crap started.  The main drivers for me are the 30% personnel reduction that's coming in June and October,  the possibility of a bankruptcy after the bailout money runs out, and that the pension will disappear if that does happen.  That was set up by Continental and untied has been trying to get their hands on it ever since the assimilation.  It's too much money to leave behind or lose, so that was a no brainer for me.

I've never flown into a hay feeder before.  May have to build something spectacular to do that with.   :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

Meh, it's not all that.

.......says he, dismissing all the years of fame, fortune, and notoriety that one care selfless act has brought him....

I was thinking a neon colored kamikaze expendable foamie would explode spectacularly on impact.... :disturbed:

Well since you put it that way I can pontificate from my celebrity status to all the minions that make it possible, just a reminder, fame/ infamy doesn't buy airplanes and crashes are always better when they are someone else's.   :disturbed:

Exactly, and it was someone else's airplane! 😂
