Yup, we got the -23 early this morning. There is right around a 5 degree difference between here and the closest reporting station 12 miles away.

Yesterday we had a high of -5, and look who stopped by to show off his new winter coat!

There was an opportunity to take this one, but PuddinFace wouldn't have any part of it...

Yeah, its pretty dang cold still, we have been -15 for lows since the other day, almost got up to 5 yesterday for the high.  We are supposed to warm up to the 30s next week, with lows in the teens, it will feel like spring after this.   They said its was the coldest air we have had in a couple years, I think they were right, maybe longer since we hit some record low highs.

We had a nasty spell last year, in February I believe. Had a couple of -30 mornings.

I was rewarded with this darn near spiritual scene as I finished up the drive:

He's back again today.

May get to use that deer rifle this year after all. There's an abandoned barn next door, I bet that's where he hole's up. Our dogs aren't smart enough to leave him be, and I know that he ain't smart enough to leave them be if he gets hungry enough. Besides, I have a friend who's a furrier. Anyone know the going price for a well-heeled coyote pelt?

...I just don't feel the love for going out coyote hunting when it's -15 with a 20 knot straight wind...

That looks almost exactly like the sun dogs we had here, I never saw it since it was foggy, but there was pic in the news.

We have at a couple foxes that got hungry enough to try a turkey. They didn't quite get it done but there is blood and feathers all over the yard.  Unfortunately they don't seem willing to present themselves in daylight.

the temperature went up 40 degrees!

it is still below freezing......but much better than last week!

We had a warm up of sorts yesterday, it got to about 17, but came with a 25-40mph wind, all the snow that blew away came back and  buried everything again and it was way too miserable to be outside   But today looks a little more promising if the wind stays down, its already 20.

-26 this morning. Almost 11 o'clock and still -15. They keep predicting "teens" above in the five-day, then by the time we get to the fifth day they're back to teens below. The furnace has been running 15 minutes for every 5 that it's been off. The local farmers jacked the price of propane by a buck a gallon by failing to prebuy for their grain driers (on the BAD advice of county agents)  and we're looking at a pricey winter if temps don't moderate...

Onepoint

It actually has warmed up here, we got to 30 yesterday, and supposed to be 40, now it will be slush and ice since we have some 4'- 5' drifts with all the wind.

Mr. December just rolled into town......and he is staying the weekend.

Make sure you send that  east and not south.

Getting a one day reprieve from the Siberian Express, +30-something today, then back to the sub-cellar til after New Years.

This needs to translate into an early Spring...

Onepoint

We have had a major warm up, in the 50s. But the snow covered with dirt is slow to melt, we have ice berms in places, and the ponds are still froze solid.  I was out ATV skating yesterday.

balsum fractus

we had a mild week so far...too warm....everything was melting and mushy......that all changed this afternoon!  The snow is going sideways about 30 knots with sub zero temps.....

it is coming from the north, heading your way guys, so you may need to hunker down ..............
