Someone from down here finally went up north and shut that damn gate.  78 degrees here today and cloudy sunshine.  Supposed to get to 80 tomorrow with rain.  Too bad those warm southern breezes don't reach up to you guys like those frozen northern ones reach down to us...

urrgh, we ran -24- to -29 windchill all day yesterday.   I think I frost bit my eyebrows.

I spoke too soon.  The gate is open again - 32 degrees here this morning with a north wind about 15 kts.  Weird winter - it was 70 this time yesterday.

82 here Saturday, High of 27 yesterday,  was 9 when I got up this morning.  This is one wild roller-coaster ride!

For you suthna's Carl, yeah. Up here we've had stretches of below zero without a break, and have seen only 3 days above freezing since November, so it's been pretty consistent.

It's about to get nasty though; The frostline is deeper than most folks ever remembering it getting, pipes and septics freezing left and right (knock wood). When the frost comes up out of the ground, it doesn't come peacefully. Roadways heave and break up, foundations crack and fail, I think this spring will be a carnival of minor disaster. The ice on the lakes is over 40" in places, more than enough to create major fish kills in a lot of lakes, and when the ice goes out it tends to "walk" out: Mighty spring winds blow an entire icecap right up on shore, taking just about everything with it including houses. So if we have a severely windy spring, like we did all winter, there are going to be expensive lake homes lost and you may get to see it on the news...

So we're still waiting on our roller coaster to pull in... :sadness:

Looks like a bit of a storm sitting over Fubar ranch this evening. I was on an aviation tracking site  checking on jr's whereabouts and it showed a storm cell over your corner of Wyoming, and a much larger one over Stettoland.

A refreshing  :icon_frown: dump of powder snow here overnight accompanied by NO WIND, and a very balmy minus 20 degrees.

I know Spring is coming cuz our cat is shedding like crazy.....

Actually we missed it all, they picked up an inchor more just south. Spring is thinking about springing.  50+ to day 60 tomorrow, 40 or so for Fri and Sat and back into the 60s on Sunday.  The ground is froze so everything is just running off right now.

Yah, it's slowly warming here--they're actually predicting a rainy mix for tomorrow night. Maybe low 40s by Monday/Tuesday. Lots of wind to accompany. Melt running off around here winds up on the Red River, causing wailing and gnashing of teeth over federal tax money to fix their flood plane. No one has any sympathy for them anymore. They had plenty of their own $$ 20 years ago and could have had it all done already, but no, we demand someone else pay.

Temps are rising. So is the wind. We get a two foot high pillow drift across our county road whenever it blows this hard from the south. The plow guy usually has to make three or four passes to get all. Yesterday he took out the mailbox, which had $500 in checks in it written by donors to Dylan's European trip that Terrin signed over to the organization in charge. Yes she should have taken them to the post office a mile away. She will from now on. Those checks are likely two counties north of us by now...Not a happy day around here.

It's spring!!  No, it's winter!!  Well, maybe it's spring again.  Until tomorrow.  Damn weather... :eusa_wall:

We went from that way below zero windchill, to spring in about a weeks time, the ground has started to thaw a little so the rain we got didn't run off, its just like trying to walk through a marsh.

I notice as I get older that remembering how miserable I was when it was 110 last summer isn't helping me tolerate this stuff much better anymore.

We are 80 degrees warmer than this time last week......despite that, we are expecting freezing rain today, which should put a nice glaze on everything...

Onepoint

Heh, there is hope, I woke up and it was 50...above!   I suspect before you start seeing abomni abomibl ...yetis move into the neighborhood up there, you will see mosskeytoes.

balsum fractus

Yetis are smart. They stay up in the Himilayas where it is much warmer...... :icon_wink:

The freezing rain never happened, but we are into our second spring thaw this year....water everywhere and brown ooze covering anything close to a road. I washed my van today ......so I could see out the windows. That will last about 10 seconds on my next trip out..........
