We just got back from a trip to San Antonio to visit family.  It rained the entire way home, and it's raining now here in beautiful downtown Uhhhmmble.  Inch and a half last night and more on the way.  We're supposed to get a break for the next couple of days and then it will start raining again.

Talk about your all day soakers! It started with a lot of bang yesterday around 5:00 pm and has been pretty much pouring since. T got me a rain guage for Christmas that I haven't put up yet, but I'm sure we've had over an inch so far, with no end for hours to come.

Of course "officials" claim it will do nothing to change our drought status. Funny how much gub'mint money there must be  in perpetuating the consensus.

That was some bad ones that rolled up from CO yesterday, we missed most of the rain, maybe a 1/4" or so, but where they got it, it was no joke, the Scottsbluff monument got 3.5" yesterday afternoon and evening, been some baseball hail and tornadoes on the north CO /NE border.

We have had 4 days of thundershowers. That helped put some moisture down....badly needed moisture! Now we look forward to a week of hot dry weather again!

I think it's safe to say we have broken our drought finally, We had about an inch over the course of a week, which helped kickstart the grass, and now we got our spring soaker we have not had in 3 years, and over 5 or more to have this much at once. Almost 3" of rain in the last 72 hours and still raining, 2" since this time yesterday. Thats about what we got last year in a 3 month space for contrast.  What PITA, but man it's what we needed to replenish deep soil moisture.  Might actually get busy this summer if we have hay grow.

Yup, here too: Official CO Springs Airport (1.5 mi. south of us) 48 hour total is 3.79 inches, with more rain expected over the next week.

Our sump actually kicked in yesterday morning, and for a while ran every 3 minutes or so.

Had a couple of days of dry, enough to get the yard cut, now it's raining again.  Supposed to be like this for a few more days.  I'm not complaining, we needed this, but the folks further south where it tends to flood are not looking happy.

91 degrees yesterday, 82 right now.

We have been cool and drizzly if not outright rainy for a week. I think Saturday was the driest day, and still had sprinkles by evening.  yesterday it rained another .7" throughout the day, which brought us up to 4.3" for the week.  Supposed to warm up and dry out slightly, but still a good chance of showers and thunderstorms through Friday.  Not used to dealing with slop like this, thank goodness most of the cows are out on pasture.

The ditch company has plenty of water so far, so they gave an early run, but decided to shut it out due to lack of demand, those who have brought it in and were running now have new ponds in a lot of places there used to not be any.  Can hardly wait until mosquitoes throw off the winter coats and come out.

We in for another hot and dry spell......fire bans everywhere!

Onepoint

2 years ago was a bad fire year for us,  we had a wet spring, but by June it dried up. So lots of early undergrowth that dried out, and many thousands of acres burned both on the grass range and forests.  Last year we had a dry spring, still had some pretty bad fires, but not near as many just because the grass and brush was short.  We were shaping up to have even less growth until the last week or so, now its all kicked into over drive for growing.

I haven't seen one mosquito since over a year and a half ago.

This statement is NOT to be misunderstood as a complaint.

Bright, shiny, a nice 73 degrees...then the hail came. A good half hour of marble sized stuff. About killed my pepper crop. Thankfully I hadn't planted out like I planned last weekend. They'd have been flattened. I got pelted pretty good but got them in before total decimation...

I was warned. Doesn't make me feel any better.

Gonna be making hoop houses before it's done.

Well that didn't last long! One fairly hot day, and now a huge low pressure cell over Winnipeg is scooping ice cold air from the Arctic circle and blowing down on us. Temps just slightly over freezing with the wind chill.....
Lots of smoke in the air from all the wild fires.....

Onepoint

I appreciate the thought, but you guys could have kept the smoke.   Woke up to some drizzle and I thought wow it's really socking in, until I stepped out and smelled the smoke.  Actually is pretty thick right now, which is kind of surreal for as damp as we are.
