Earlier this summer Vicki found an owl that had been hit on the road but still alive.  There happens to be a lady who does wildlife rescue in Lyman, so she took it over to her.

Today was the day to be released and wanted to know if it was OK to release it on our place.

Birds of prey are awe inspiring. This one has a bad eye from the trauma, and had a hurt wing but as you can see, its back in action again.
Pics are blurry because the light was fading quickly

After a few minutes, it jumped out of the box and flapped away, right over our faces which surprised us,  nothing like a owl inches from your face trying to gain altitude.

And off it went

Too neat.

We run the gamut out here, we have every bird of prey that inhabits Minnesota flying circling over or lurking in the grove. The bald eagles are what we see the most of, a bird we never saw when I was a kid. Had a whitetail hawk screaming into the lilac bushes the other day, foraging for small birds. To have that kind of Marlin Perkins moments just a few yards out in the back yard is amazing...

Good stewardship, Eric. There oughta be more like you... :notworthy:

Heheh, wasn't me, probably Vicki should get some credit though.

We have had a lot of hawks around, 3 of them been hanging out just behind the corrals in the field and there is a great big owl out back in the tree line, I bet he would stand over my knee high and has huge wing span.  Must be some decent hunting around for them.

As a side note, a neighbor saw some elk about 6 miles south of us, shocked everyone to see them this low.
