A real live one, and not an airliner, which infest the airspace above my house by the dozens.  I was pulling out of the driveway when I heard jet engines over my head, but not the normal jet engines I usually hear.  Turned out to be an A-10 Warthog on final into IAH, which is unusual enough to warrant my getting out of the truck to watch.  Have no idea why he was there, unless he couldn't find Ellington Field, which is the normal military stopping point.

Anyway, that made my day!  Y'all can stop laughing at me now.... :icon_mrgreen:

It's okay, I understand.   We get the very occasional CF-18 overhead......very different sound than the Boeings and Airbusses......and even rarer, sometimes a Herc will drone by when the army is out doing para drops ( somewhere out of sight....)

We are the other way around, I hear turboprops and radials a lot this time of year, but had to look up when I heard the whine of a jet engine fairly low, and could not make out what it was with smoky haze.   It may have taken off from Scottsbluff or maybe just moving through, but it was scooting whatever it was.

Every now and then, but a lot more frequently recently, we've had a huge, white 747 looking thing come over, some days just repeating touch-and-goes. It came in so low a few times I bet I could reach up and tickle her belly.

Found out what it was last night

Been a busy day over Peterson SFB. A 747 Doomsday plane, tanker/fueler, several F16s and F22s AND an AWACS radar plane all taking turns doing touch-and-goes over the house...

Almost seems like something is up. I heard yuge NATO war games is coming up, but not over Colorado, right?

....right?

You got a heckuva flying museum nearby with 28 flyable warbirds...

Something I would like to see someday......

Nony, I spent a day about every 2 weeks at the CAF station in Mesa AZ. I haven't made it to the museum here yet, so ashamed of me, yeh?

Not at all....you are lucky to have something that close, if the mood ever strikes.......

I had to go to Cheyenne yesterday to help move a roll top desk for my daughter, she asked if I had seen the pictures of the airplane she sent the day before, which I missed.  Apparently there were some F18s that had come in and she caught one in air close to the runway on the way by.  Then later I heard a jet roar and looked up to catch glimpse of another F18 tail through the trees over head.

I know that planes come from all over to Cheyenne to train high cross wind landings, but the  wind was not that bad either day.
