That stainless barrel has about paid for itself already. I spent about 10 shells adjusting the open sights to zero @ about 60 yards on Saturday, and as of 8:30 this morning that 10/22 has dispatched four of the fruit-tree-girdling bastiges that PuddinFace thinks are so cute and harmless. I've been watching them over the winter, there only appear to have been the four, but I'm sure more will be moving in soon.

Once the snow berm out front melted away I discovered the little monsters had tried to kill my Canadian Cherry. Will find out in a few weeks if it can survive the munch madness that went on under the snow cover. I wish I'd have wrapped them... :sadness:

Mama's wild plums are all gone but one.

I spent last winter blowing the snow away from the apple trees (a Goodland and a Honey Crisp). The rabbits killed the first ones I planted, won't get these.

The skunks are just now starting to become active. They dig up the yard at night, hunting for nightcrawlers. I don't plan to stay up... :P

No chipmonks yet, but the Benelli's all warmed up...

OMG you spent 5 bucks in ammo sighting in ?!?

OK its not quite that bad, just feels like it.

Its been warm and I was starting to think about the dogs, but I have not seen much movement yet.

It definitely feels like it. The rabbits had to go.

We already had a turkey vulture in the back yesterday, a sign that those tree-killers won't go to waste. I'd never seen a vulture in these parts up until about 5 years ago. We never had wild turkey either...Now it's an odd day when you DON'T see a half dozen turkeys in the ditch...

I'll have to get that turkey breast recipe from Carl...

Yeah, its kind of weird like that here too, we lived here for 15 years and I saw just a couple wild turkeys ever, and that was 50 miles west along the river.   We raised some to eat, and when they got big enough to wander around, along comes small flock of wild ones and joined them, and they stayed and winter over in our trees.   Now you see them everywhere, at least 2 separate flocks in our mile, and probably 4 or so between here and town.

So do you think the barrels shoot the same? Just curious.

Nope--WAY nope. I think I got the winning end of that deal (maybe 'splains the bipe  :icon_mrgreen: ), hard to describe, but the stainless barrel just feels more accurate. I never checked--Are they the same length? I could swear the stainless looks shorter by an inch.

Frazz

Shoot (pun intended :) ) Stetto, what are you doing with a 10/22?  I thought according to the news lately that surely an ass hault rifle with about 4 30 round mags  in the caliber of your choice would probaly dispatch one or two of em, then reload of course for the next round.

Jeese.... these kids and the popguns they use  :icon_lol:
To understand true love, lock your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour and then see which one is glad to see you when you come back

Onepoint

Heh, well I always thought the stainless shot  better too.  Yeah they are the same length twist and  profile, but I guess because they are purdier they seem to shoot better.

Ahm thinkin'!

I'll be danged! 2 new rabbits moved in this morning already--Interesting how fast word got around about the vacancy. These shelter belts are about a mile between, lots of full field drainage and open mud to get from one to the other.

I may have a busy year. I've been throwing the carcasses to the vultures, now I'm thinking that Mama might want a new winter coat!  :disturbed:

stetto

Dispatched 2 more this morning, and in the woods I could see another couple racing for cover.

Tomorrow morning I think I'll take the Nova. I'm not afraid that I'll run out of shotgun shells... :disturbed:
