May 30. The tomatoes have been out for a week, even went to the trouble of trying red mulch this year.

...It's 33 degrees right now, they didn't announce a possible frost until after midnight. Too late to cover, about to learn just how hardy tomato plants are.

We are continuing to be inundated.  The neighbors tell me we have had 12" of rain or wet including what the snow added up to since the end of April.  I think the fish gets bigger everytime its told about in that case, but we are truly over 7" of straight rain now since the 1st week of May.  And we are lucky.   North about 80 miles or so in Lusk WY the town was isolated from all roads washing out, even the railroad was cut off and stranded between bridges I hear.  Power out, water out, they have the guard up there evacuating a smaller town just west and bringing in water for them.  They did get the road south open, but the others will be a while since it took out bridges.   And we still have 3 more days of high threat of heavy rain and tornadoes.  Its been a wild year so far.

After yesterday's inch and a half we're well past ten for the last month, and we've been mostly bypassed.

...our sump is running every 46 seconds, something it's never done in the six years since we put it in. We aren't flooding, the rain isn't  falling all at once. I fear what's going on under the house....

Onepoint

Sheesh you can't even sleep at night, every other night for the last few days thunderstorms have built up and rolled through at 2 or 3 AM waking us up to thunder and last for an hour or more.  We dodged most of the rain this week until last night, we had one roll through about dark and then again at 2am that dumped on us.

We could use a bit of that rain....warm, windy, and very dry up here..

Onepoint

Dry? I forget what that was like, another 1.25" and this yesterday afternoon.

We got rain....one thunderstorm at a time!

Back to summer after tomorrow's storm rolls past.

Arghh! After the Mother of all Heat Waves...105 degrees in the shade ...(keep in mind that 80 degrees is torrid hot up here..)  way to hot to do anything--including try to sleep!

But today, we got rain! We got rain!  People are almost out dancing in the street welcoming the relief from the scorching temperatures.......

Onepoint

Yeah, amazing what just a couple weeks change does.  We went from being near mossy and wet, to our usual dry and hot, just short of triple digits.   and howinthehell did it get to be July already?

We haven't seen the sun for three days now, and there's been nary a cloud in the sky. There's so much smoke coming from fires in Canadia that it's dusk all day...

Buzzardbeak

We are getting the Canadian fire haze here also.

Frank

Onepoint

We even had some out of state smoke haze here as well, but its not as bad as we have had in the past.

We had such a wet spring the grass is taller than anyone remembers, if it t=dries out could make for some true wildfires.  I thought maybe we would, we had a stretch of a couple weeks of dry and hot, but today and the next couple are supposed to be 70s and wet again.

Onepoint

OK We got full effect of the smoke yesterday and today, it was thick enough at times visibility was down to 1/8 mile, could not see the end of our trees at times, probably because we had some upslope going on keeping us cool and damp as well. We went from a triple digit high on the 4th to maybe 72 yesterday with it twilight all day long.

Mike just got back from a charter to Guadalajara to fly in 62 fire fighters to help combat those fires....

..any help is appreciated....

It's raining!  It's raining!

A welcome end to chapter 2 of the torrid heat wave....a good ol' thunderstorm with lightning, and hail and wind, and lots of rain......hope that helps the fire situation.....
