The end of a long strange trip...

Today is officially my last day at the sorta friendly skies, a rather quiet end to 43 years in the aviation industry.  It's a little weird, but it feels good as well because I will no longer have to be a slave to airline schedules, weird hours and non-existent holidays.  The only thing that annoys me is that after 33 years at the airline, no one said thank you, gave me a cheap certificate or sent a cheesy congrats form letter.  A little petty maybe, but I expected a bit more.

The past Thanksgiving holiday with my family was amazing, and I'm looking forward to Christmas in a way I haven't done in a very long time.  I hear rumors of a FUBAR get together - won't have any excuses now not to attend!

As the song says - what a long strange trip it's been.....

Aw Jaime, we still love you. You still in that hut in Humble? I'll send you my version of a gold watch.... :eusa_clap:

Yah, a Gathering. I so need one. The PuddinFace got an offer to move to CO Springs yesterday, she desperately needs a change of venue, regardless the jack-boot environment. Of course Momma wants to follow her next fall...

Congratulations on that well deserved retirement, friend!

Pity they don't appreciate the people who contribute to the long term success of the organization!

Fortunately not all companies are so cold-hearted. I've retired twice from 2 different companies, and my experience was the opposite of yours.

But look at the good side......now you can work full time at Fubar......from home!!

As for a get together, I'm all for it, providing Covid is under control. I really want to visit Oshkosh next year, but not holding my breath that it will be do-able

Thanks!  It's a good feeling.  Going to take the rest of the year off, then come new year will start looking around to see what kind of lunatics might hire a washed out old airplane mechanic so I don't sit home and age faster than I need to.  I suspect that something mindless would be right up my alley, though I hear that people with more money than time will pay me to build airplanes for them.

Stetto, I am still in the Humble hut.  Or as they say it around here, the Uhhhmble ut!   :disturbed: :disturbed:  When are you moving to Texas?

A gathering would be great.

Congratulations Jaime,

It took me a bit to get used to the idea of being retired.  But, now, I don't no how I ever had time for a full time job!!!

I can see the T-Shirts now,  Fubar Hill

Heh, I don't know why I am envious, I am not retried yet, just tired.  But heck, come on over,  I can find something for us to do.    :icon_twisted:

My mom retired at 80 just this year, worked for almost 40 years at the same place as a office mangaer / book keeper, upon her retirement her thankyou was them forgoing the yearly bonus they gave her normally and gave her a necklace, which in 40 years she never wore jewelry at work.  She was unamused.
