So I capitulated to beg the govts permission to buy a suppressor for the rifles.  The ATF came out with a new streamlined system of e-filing forms that was supposed to make getting approval as short as 90 days opposed to a year filing by paper.  Well they missed that mark by half and it only took 147 days, but it did finally get the approval and I picked it up today.  Between this and camo I should be silent and invisible now.

Only when they are hungry. Like sharks.

On my list,  which suppressor did you go with?  I am thinking about a Sandman Ti.

Now you did it.    going to be a novel.  I went with the Silencerco Omega 300.  If I had it to do over, I may have gone with a YHM resonator R2 even though its stainless not titanium, very similar specs only an ounce heavier despite being almost an inch longer, reportedly just a little quieter, but much cheaper.    I was looking for an all around type suppressor, rated for full auto, just to be more rugged, and wanted it light for the carbines yet still be able to handle the 308s or any 6.5 or 6.8 I may do in the future.

Before really looking at the resonator R2, discounting it because it wasn't titanium, my dealer shot me a really good price on the Omega 300, and with my eyes glazed over from all the info I had been reading about them, I pulled trigger on the Omega.  Not disappointed though, it's pretty nice, but it's really only about a 6" can, so its not as quiet.  Still quiet enough to not use ear protection, at least on the 5.56 so far.  My cousin ordered an R2 about a month after me, we are hoping it gets approved in the same time frame or sooner so we can compare soon.  Stettos 300blk is wearing it right now waiting for it to not be surface of the sun hot out to give it test run.

There are sooo many to choose from it gets really confusing, so unless you are picking from some that are in stock somewhere, ordering through places like Silencer shop or capital armory to a local NFA dealer is relatively simple for the bureaucracy infused convoluted govt requirements.   My local dealer was an affiliate with silencer shop and had their kiosk for all the Form 4 application stuff, he sourced the suppressor from his wholesaler, but it was sold through silencer shop for all the fingerprints and E-file stuff.

Anyway, having used both, I would suggest going with the new ASR QD mount compatible over direct thread, most of them will come with a direct thread adapter if that is preferred, but it also leaves open any of the mount systems out there that adapt to the ASR thread (1 3/8x 24)  I have both YHM and Silencerco muzzle devices and mounts for example. Also allows more access to clean them if you ever want to.

Nothing wrong with direct thread, but it is nice to be able to take it on and off without wrenches and leaving the barrel threads exposed.  My cousin Matt has a Sig 30cal can that they have stopped making, but Q makes a nearly identical one except lighter they call the Full Nelson. Its direct thread, larger diameter at 1.75" almost 9" long but it is quiet, especially on 308 bolt guns.

There are the higher end Thunder beast and Hyperion if sound is the main concern, but there are several factors at play including back pressure, weight and durability that may be considered too, and that was tough to guess which compromise and mix of traits were going to be best when I was picking one and I had at least a little experience with them already.  You can PM me for more info on that if you want.

Thanks for dialing the Blackout in for me, Buckaroo. I really thought I'd have been up there before now. Use all the ammo you want, that's why I left it for you...So, when I originally built that rifle I thought maybe an upgrade buffer spring would be a thing, but you didn't bring up recoil, so I'm going to assume it's OK as is...

So what are the odds you "know a guy" who reloads and can do a special box of 16guage in a 2 & 9/16 chambering? Maybe a simple #7 or #8 shot but underpowered? I'd love to shoot the old man's Win 1897, but Damascus steel and all, I'd hate to blow it up with a modern load...

I don't know of anyone who loads shotgun, though I bet it would not be hard to open some shells and weigh the powder and knock it down yourself. Just need a powder scale.  Are you sure its Damascus?

Serial # says it was manufactured in 1907. So I assume, from sites and postings elsewhere...

I read it could go either way, but better to be safe.
