It's 9:30pm and just dropped below 90 degrees....

Well, the a/c is struggling but operational. When temps were in the mid 90s outside it maintained an indoor high temp of 72° with 35% humidity. The indoor humidity is still 35%, but with 102° outside at present peak temp (5 o'clock), my roof unit appears to be holding @ 79°.

Note that im getting this performance on the low setting. Im sure it would do better cranked up, but the current setting gives me a nighttime temp from 66-68°, though the humidity climbs quite a bit. I'll take it.

Some fat broad named Bertha is due to visit the coast this weekend, but they don't hold any hope for relief. Maybe in Jaime's neighborhood, not here...

Bertha went to Alabama and Louisiana, but we're expected to get some rain and wind from it.

And why is it the first thing that popped into my head when that storm was named was a song lyric from way back that went, "Her name was Bertha.  Bertha Butt.  One a da Butt sisters..."   

Well we don't get no theyacanes, at least we are allowed to identify that way.

Its been hot, until we hit a roller coaster, not a lot of rain, but a couple showers, last weekend it absolutely baked, 104, 15 to 20 winds, everything was shriveling. I'm going to look like one of those apple head dolls soon.  But Tuesday barely made 90, yesterday it was 94 and humid, today mid 80s possible chance of rain, then triples for the weekend with predicted 107 for Sunday, triples for 4 days or so then drops back to high 9os for the foreseeable next week.

No one can get stuff to grow, if it gets wet its does OK, but everyone is struggling to get it wet, the guys with sprinklers are having evaporation issues and cant get it soaked enough, the flood irrigators like me are having trouble getting it to flow out its so dry. And the ditch is going out mid August. Cattle price is going for even new higher records, but so is hay costs, and most people are having to buy this year or sell cattle, a neighbor is going to hang it up they told us, when the calves are ready to go, the cows are going with them. A lot of people planted sorghum instead of corn, but with it stressed in weather like this, it picks up nitrogen and becomes toxic, especially in fields that have been fertilized with nitrogen like corn fields, everyone is going to have to test for it or lose those gold plated cows. 

What the heck Texas, I don't remember ordering your weather, It was like Florida hot and muggy yesterday, where it rained it rained a lot for here, like an inch, or 2 in some places north of us, we got absolutely nothing. where it didn't the moisture in the air with 90% humidity hung around and clung to the smoke granted to us by Canada, so it was very hazy.  I had to go into town yesterday about 8 AM, it was about 75 or 80, but ran into a cloud parked on the ground, you could see it ahead looked just like a cloud that you drove into, for a few miles it was foggy, for a stretch of about a mile visibly was about 50 yards. It was surreal.  Then the heat came, bounced up to 100 in the afternoon, fortunately the humidity dropped down to 35% which while sticky for us is manageable. Today is supposed to 105, tomorrow 107 hundred something on Monday by which point I will be either a dried husk or welded to the air conditioner.   

The thing I hate with this weather is everything burns you.  I broke a sickle section yesterday afternoon, the tools were almost too hot to touch despite plastic handles just sitting there for 5 minutes. I made the mistake of grabbing a metal bar that was baking in open sun for hours and decided right then to drag an umbrella out and cover the thing and wait a bit to work on it. On the way to town, (because you know I break the only "special" blade section that I don't have on hand) I had to keep alternating hands on the wheel because it never cooled down until almost there despite the AC blasting for 20 minutes. My delicate nature just doesn't handle these temp swings like it used to.

Our heat is pretty consistent these days, only a couple over 100°. The humidity comes and it goes, mostly comes, but building this fence isn't a lot of work yet. We're still putting in railroad tie H-braces, but my "boss" has mesothelioma and has to take frequent breaks. I don't mind those breaks at all, I tell ya! A good portion of them involve a cold can of beer in front of an industrial fan.

He broke the drag link on his Kubota the other day, the weld seems to be holding, but the auger's on borrowed time till that part is replaced...

Well, Honcho, I think that part of Wyoming used to be part of the Texas Republic, so maybe it's payback for taking it away from us!   

Bertha was pretty much a non event here.  We got about a 1/4 inch of drizzle and a some wind, but that was about it.  More 100 degree days in store next week.  95 here right now.

When I was a flying mechanic way back when, I did outdoor gigs at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and a bunch of DC-3 engine changes on the ramp in Tucson, Arizona.  Highest temp I remember was 120 in Tucson.  At White Sands, we all were issued a bucket filled with water to carry tools in.  If you left a wrench lying on a wing for a minute or three, you wouldn't be able to pick it up.

This is the weirdest weather this year, I hope it doesn't carry into fall and winter.  Now we are getting monsoon season, not drought breaking, but have been getting afternoon showers once in a while, missing most of them, but keeping humidity up, 82% as I look now at 5:30 am, creating the problems with haying. We caught one yesterday afternoon about 5, looked like a small cell, about 2 maybe 3 miles wide is all, rained for about 5 or 10 minutes and dropped about 3/10 in that time, which was surprising.

Nothing that unusual about that, but the temps are still up in the mid to high 90s when normally the temps drop to 80s when the moisture flows up from the SW, and looks like we are heading for another 105 day flanked by too damn hot on either side this weekend.

My favorite forecast so far this year - there was supposed to be a cold front this past weekend, one which the weather guessers said would bring some rain and make it "less hot."  They were partially right.  It went from 99 to 97, but the humidity went up, and it didn't rain, so "less hot" didn't really matter.

This morning I wore a coat because it was actually in the high 40s when I went out to change the water. Its almost noon and still only 69 here.  Dry calm and smoky, going to enjoy it, after 107 last Sunday, and supposed to be well over 100 again this coming weekend.

Thundering and lightning-ing right now, but no rain.  Still hot, though.  97 degrees...

Its not going to get as hot as they said it was earlier this week, just 101 vs 107 or so, and then cool back down for a couple days next week. Its 99 right now. feels muggy but reads only 22% and more smoke rolling in again. It was down right wet this morning though, 80% until about 10ish. Must have some moisture coming up from the SW.

"We" passed the one year mark as Texans on August 1st. I remember it well, 217% humidity @ 100 degrees while offloading the truck, followed by a 15 minute downpour while at the liquor store looking for relief from unloading the truck. What a welcome!

Well happy anniversary, mi amigo!  Just think, in another year, you'll be saying "y'all" all the time, drinking Shiner Bock like it was water and wearing them funny pointy toed boots!  And it will still be 217% humidity and 100 degrees....at Christmas!   

Where is everyone?

Hot and more hot.  No hundreds this week, but a fair share of 98 and 99 degree days.  It rained for about three minutes a few days ago, and that's been about it.
