It's like this - life at the airlines is pretty uncertain at the moment, and it's entirely possible that my magic carpet ride might come to an end in the foreseeable future.  The worst part is not knowing for sure and having to live with it hanging over my head.  So, on a whim, I applied a few weeks ago for a part time instructor position at an A&P school out at Hobby airport.

Much to my surprise, they called the next day.  The day after that, I interviewed, and I'm now the newest suck.....ummm....instructor at the Aviation Maintenance Institute of Houston.  My first official day is tomorrow.  I'll be working Mondays and Tuesdays and they seem to be pretty willing to work around the other job schedule.  It's a little scary in a way; there's a lot of things I've forgotten and a LOT of things that have changed since I worked the line last.  I'm the only one on the staff who isn't retired, the only one still currently employed in the business and the youngest instructor there (by about 15 years!).  Ought to be interesting.  If there's one kid in that whole bunch who lights up every time an airplane goes over, it'll be worth it.

I figure the worst that could happen is that it'll be me sitting in the corner wearing the pointy hat..... :disturbed:

Well congrats.  I seem to spend most of my time finding ways not to make money and even get rid of what little I have. :)

Yeah, cool Teach! Do they supply the pocket protectors or is there a pocket-protector allowance (so you can, you know, be cool  8) )?

So ahhhhhhh, if a student throws around paper airplanes in class...... this is good for a change. :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:
To understand true love, lock your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour and then see which one is glad to see you when you come back

So, had enough of the self-loading cargo, eh?  The only constant in that industry is change (but you knew that)... I was only on the fringe for a few years before moving on .....but got to see and hear lots...There were fun times.....................once in a while. Other times...............not so much.

But hey! Congrats amigo, It is great to have a bit of cushion underneath you....however, be careful not to discourage the new crop of kids...(with luck, they will be paying your pension..)
I'm sure you will have lots of interesting stories to relate to them...

Congrats Jaime,

That is awesome.

If you get a chance, can you pm me your cell phone number?  I have been making several runs to Houston here lately, and would like to give ya a yell if I have the chance.  I delivered Friday to Transaction Packing which is almost in IAH.

Thanks, everyone!  Did my first class last night.  Federal......zzzzzzzzzzz.....Aviation......zzzzzzzzzzz.......Regulationzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... :disturbed:  Not my favorite thing in the world, but it was something I am still familiar with.  What you all smelled was my brain cell frying...

I didn't get a pocket protector.  They didn't have any with Sponge Bob on them. I might have to go the Think Geek website and find one that has led's in it or something.

It was an interesting experience.  Tonight, I get to give....A TEST!!!  :eek5:  That'll be a new thing for me too.  First time I've ever been on the giving end!

Carl, I'll PM you with my number.
