I was fortunate enough to get invited again this year, and even took the day off to do so.  Yes, it's the astronaut Hoot Gibson.  The event is held at Bruce Bohannon's (Exxon Flyin' Tiger pilot) private airstrip down south of Houston and a bunch of us rc people are asked to provide entertainment.  So we did.  All day long:

Part of the Royal Texas Air Force....

An RV-4 touching down.  A spotter was a must, because there were often full scale airplanes in the pattern.  This was the runway we used for the RC flying.

A Christian Husky touching down on the other runway....

My favorite - A Waco YMF on rollout.  A beautiful airplane...

Another shot of the Waco.  I'd sell my soul for one of these, I think.... :icon_mrgreen:

Bruce Bohannon's Cub taking off.  Yes, I was that close.

The former Exxon Flyin' Tiger, a highly modified RV-4 that holds several time to climb world records.  This is Bruce's other airplane.

A Luscombe.  Or as we used to call them: Lus-com-bees!!

Pitts Special, one of three that were there that day.

And another Cub shot for the Honcho...

Part of the flight line.  There was a T6 and a brace of T-34's there also, but they left before I got a chance to get pictures.  Lots of low flybys, and I think I gained a few pounds eating crawfish.

Way cool!  I also love the WACOs.  This winter I picked up a Hobby Lobby WACO and have been flying it some, up until our weatehr turned all  Oregon on us.

Is that a Green Citabria in the the last flight line shot?

As a matter of fact, it is!

my eyes hurt from all that blue sky and sunshine!!!!

Nice airplanes!!!

Nice gaggle of rc models as well...I notice a couple of Habus there.....

Honcho, is this the same WACO??  I got 2 broken ones and made a good one out of the pair, with a few spare parts left over.... The crappy radio is glitching, so it has not flown yet...

Onepoint

Heh, put black on the star burst instead of white and its like my Midwest.  8)

Yep, got a hardly used but thunked one from the Denver auction. Had a broken motor mount, and the wing had been repaired. And when I tested the radio it would only run up full throttle 1/2 the time, so I think I know why it crashed.   Put a Corona synthesized receiver in it and it flies OK.

One of these nice days I will take some pic of the new electrics.  I have a couple airfield 800mm warbirds, a Art-tech edge 540 and the WACO

Got bit by that electric bug, did you?   :icon_mrgreen:

Yeah, when I saw out how cheap it had become, it was hard to argue against the gottahavititis.    :disturbed:

Hey, if any you guys want any 72 MHz JR or Hitec receivers, let me know...they're yours for the asking....

jetmex

Wayne, if you don't mind, I might take you up on that.  Are they full size or micro?  Still have my Futaba 6EX 72 mhz computer radio and I don't really want to get rid of it just yet.

One of the guys at the fly in gave me an old Ikarus Su-27XXL.  It's in pretty good shape and still has a couple of E-Flite servos attached to it.  Guess I need to get off my tail and get some airplanes done....

balsum fractus

You can have them, but they won't work with your futaba radio as they are all positive shift.

JR and Airtronics use positive shift
Futaba and Hitec use negative shift (although some hitec stuff is shift selectable...but I don't have any.....)

Onepoint

I am still running JR 72mhz, though I have a couple extra receivers sitting around already.  I have had to buy some micro receivers for the electrics.

Shouldn't the Hitec work for him? or did they sell them in different shift?

I know they are not free, but check out BP hobbies, http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=A2907635 they have Corona  micro synthesized shift detect receivers for around 20 bucks, or hitec 6 channel shift detecting synthesized for the same money.

I think Hobby king has them even a little cheaper, but they come Asia mail and may take longer to get here.

jetmex

I don't have any positive shift radios, I was strictly a Futaba user.  The Hitecs I do have are all negative shift, did they make both?

I'm slowly going 2.4, have three airplanes converted already.  Seems like all those receivers are propietary, not sure if a Futaba 2.4 will work with my Spektrum transmitter.  Does anyone know for sure?  Sometimes I think I liked it better when it was more simple!

Update on the 2.4 stuff -- I guess not:

how unfortunate....................... :icon_wink:

I don't have any of the shift selectable hitecs, unfortunately...however, Eric, I do have a 4ch micro hitec that is still in its original package..it's yours if you want it...you will have to get a single conversion crystal for it though...

Jaime, you can get a spektrum module for your futaba that will make it work with your spektrum receivers....It might not be cost effective though.........
I just gave my 8103 a new lease on life by getting a 2.4 module for it.....now i have a decent radio for my micros...

Onepoint

Well like I said I don't have a pressing need,  but if no one else can use them and you need to find them a home, I can probably put them to use at some point.

jetmex

Wayne, I have a Spektrum DX6 radio, so getting a module for the Futaba radio would be redundant.  I just hate to waste a perfectly good transmitter.  I bought the Futaba just before the 2.4 sets got really popular; talk about being overtaken by technology.  But I've never had a binding problem with the Futaba.

If Honcho doesn't need your Hitec micro reciever and it's negative shift, put me on the waiting list!
