No, not Dezi. We lost her to cancer in 2002. Our goldie mix and res-dog have run off. This is not a first, but a first that they haven't returned. It's past Charlie's dinner time and he does NOT miss dinner...

They've been gone a good 12 hours. Dogs come back, but this res-dog is a runner and Charlie is an enabler. We drove around for a couple hours for the kids, but nuthin'.

If they happen by any of your 'hoods, give 'em a kibble and point the way home, wouldja?

stetto

Sadie came home this morning. Alone. My blood curdles every time a car or semi screams by out front.

:icon_sad:, well that sucks, Hope the other one shows up, or at least you find it, I hate that when they just seem to drop off the earth.

stetto

Yup, off the earth he went. The other dog can't seem to tell us anything.

I've always made a point of not attaching myself to the livestock, a lesson learned when I was eight. I kinda goofed this time.

He may still wander in, and I've driven every inch of US, state, county and township roads within 10 miles, so unless some farmer shot him my guess is that he got taken in by someone.

At least that's my story to the kids; he's found a warm, food-rich place to hang out for a spell.

Onepoint

I wouldn't discount that, its why we have so many dogs we do, and I won't even give a number, it would shock you.

Found Charlie this morning after 3+ hours of driving around, 30 yds off the road in the woods, maybe 4 miles from the house. It was a road I had actually "eeny meeny miney moe'd" to take, a minimum maintenance farm track leading past a large grove. I had to convince him it was me. We started hearing from folks around town (ok, it was in the town liquor store) that a large fawn goldie was wandering south of town.

Charlie was found east of town.

He smells like road kill. I'll get the kids to bathe him.

Onepoint

Well at least it ended well.  Makes you wonder what dogs think sometimes.

Glad to hear you found him Stetto.

Honcho, I know what you mean about a large number of dogs, we live out in the country now and someone is always dumping there animals.  Billie Sue has actually started the papework to set up a non-profit rescue.
We currently have 16 dogs, we go to Sams and buy 4, 50 lbs bags of dog food, every other week.

stetto

Whoa Carl, 16...I dunna wanna even hear Eric's number.

We had a miniature pinscher dumped on the road in front of the house last summer. Just stopped, threw the dog clear and casually drove off.

It took about a day to realize why they did that. Little bastige was not neutered, and "loved" everything CONSTANTLY. We found a rescue (gee Carl, wish I had known!) and got him outta there before I had a firearm accident...

Yeah, I think I figured out why Charlie was so reluctant to come out of the woods...He thought he was in trouble for running off (he doesn't do that without encouragement from Mama's res-dog). There isn't a dog living or dead who hates being scolded more than Charlie.

Real happy the dawgs are back home safe....anything coulda happened out there....  I believe this is the first piece of good news  from Stetto land for quite awhile.....

stetto

Hee hee, yeah Nony, the bad news begins Dec 14, right after surgery. I've been practicing doing everything with my left hand...It don't look good fellas... :disturbed:

Onepoint

Just being one handed is a PITA, much less the dominate one.

Heh, well Carl I see you do know. I think we have about 18 now, about a dozen are rescues, a couple are fostered for the shelter Vicki works with.  We have put them on a raw meat diet for them with a little dry dog food thrown in, but we have an advantage of being able to pick up carcasses from neighbors etc when they have ones that get hurt or old which helps the food bill.

balsum fractus

hmm...sounds like a dog ranch......
