Some background....
I'm beyond needing "stuff"..we got what we need, and want what we got. So for birthdays, I just tell the girls to take me out for steak dinner, and I am happy with that!
Part 2... my son (and my best friend!) lives 3-1/2 hours away. With his travelling for work, and lately having his hands full with 2 little girls, we only got to see them maybe once a month, and that was pre-covid. Sure, we facetime every week, but that is usually all about the girls- what they have learned, what they can do now, etc.....which is great. But we really haven't done any guy stuff for years! His lovely wife volunteered to cover both parental roles for 3 days, so Mike could up and visit with us.

We sat on the deck enjoying a rye and 7, catching up on "what's new"; we putzed around the workshop for a couple of evenings; and went out to the field twice, so he could fly his jets. In short, we got to hang out together for two and a half days - just like old times!

And that time together was the best gift that anyone could have given me!

That is awesome Nony!

That  is cool, I hardly see my daughter anymore, Vicki keeps tabs by texting.  I think she is afraid I will put her to work if she shows up, I guess experience is the best teacher after all.  :eek5:

Heh, Dylan lives in the next town over and works about a mile away. He stops by maybe once a month for a pound of hamburger...the PuddinFace lives in Fargo (50 mi.) and somehow finds her way home every weekend.

Nony, happy dammed birthday, and you'd do well to find a huge thank you gesture for that daughter-in-law!!

Thanks, guys...

It was awesome........looking back, I guess I did the same for my Dad when he was still alive.....our infrequent visits would start with "come out to the shop and see what I built"....... I never appreciated how much the one on one time meant until now.....
