Covid panic, part deux?

I guess its not really a panic anymore since you can't be panicked for 10 months.   So how is supply of stuff in everyone's neck of the woods?  Vicki has been complaining how grocery stores and walmart have been unbale to keep shelves stocked, mainly food but some other things like printer cartridges are rare to find, even online it seems.

I went to buy a new coat since the holes in mine reminded me that the cross ventilation is less than desirable when its below zero. Besides the hoodie kind, there were hardly any coats, and they said they have had spotty resupply for everything from the warehouse all summer.  I noticed the outside stuff like livestock panels and the anti plane hay feeders have been scarce too.  The latter may be just lolling them in order to get them to come close to strike, but panels gates being relatively benign are still rare,  I suspect distribution slow downs more than production, but who knows.

Besides the initial surge of gun sales that cleared shelves, for the most part a lot of guns are back on shelves, just nothing to shoot though them since ammo is rare, and high when it does show up.  Just before the great toilet paper rush followed by everything else, I bought 500rds of 9mm for 13 cents around shipped.  A couple a days ago I saw the same stuff online for 55 cents. 

Anyway, just curious how supply is working else where.

We like coke 0 in the 10 oz plastic bottles.  For some reason those have been hard to find.  Another is paper towels.  Sams club where we go has cases of  it occasionally but that spot is empty a lot of times.  And yeah, we are going to stock up on TP again.  That's one thing I don't want to worry about.

Yeh, mostly certain varieties of soda pop and dry goods are a hard find here. Dry beans were completely missing for a few months, and now it's a hit & miss proposition whether there's a bag of pinto or lima beans left on a shelf. Some prices have got stupid and a lot of long-standing bars, grills and restaurants have gone away.

The mask bullshit is mandatory in MN STILL, apparently there being a new definition of "two weeks" here. Neither of us has worn a mask yet, and people have been amazingly unwilling to force the issue, so other than the reprimand we go about our business. Maybe the scowl has something to do with that.

We helped Dylan pick out a new car a couple weeks ago, a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited, a real sport model that set him back some major coin, and the dealership was filthy with mask wearers, but not one of them even mentioned our clean, shiny naked faces. They even gave the boy $500 for his decrepit 2002 Prius...

Then the ammo. ALL my local folk say "we got no, and we expect no", and I've had an alert request with my main LGS guy now since June, haven't heard from him yet...I guess I shoulda took up reloading, eh?

Lifestyle HAS changed quite a bit. We now order groceries online from the big stores, and will-call our perishables from a local Wally. Restrictions on eateries are such that for the first time in over a decade we're eating fast food again. Love that Hardee's Spicy Western Bacon Burger!!

Another thing: I had a place I'd buy my garden supplies, one of my favorite potting soils is made by FoxFarm. I'm now ordering the stuff online (yes, dirt online!) and will likely, for reasons I'd rather not get petty about here, not patronize that store again...

PuddinFace was in contact with someone WuFlu pos. last week, then came to the house on the weekend. She'll be testing this afternoon, and if she tests + life will change again, as Terrins clientele are mostly serviced onsite....

I beg to differ with you, Honcho.  My home town of El Paso Texas has been locked down since this thing started and now the place is the covid hotspot of the state!  They all walk around looking like masked ninjas, locking themselves in and staying at last 6 yards from everyone else and they're still getting sick!  Our relatives there don't want us to visit because they think we're contagious.  I guess the Mexican border is not as virus proof as all those bureaucrats seem to think it is...

It's finally getting to where we can find stuff here.  There is toilet paper on the shelves, and I actually found some cleaning supplies earlier this week at wally world.  No ammo, though, unless you're shooting really weird caliber Russian rifles....

Hey, I resemble that remark! 

The common calibers are more closely coveted than the holy grail it seems at times for sure, even despite the price. 

I am starting to see all the import ammo dry up as well, people expect that if Biden gets in the import of ammo will end, and certainly the online sales of it.



Anyway,  I don't think this is panic anymore, its successful indoctrination and the new normal.  If we ever get past this virus I'm sure there is something else deadly to frighten Karens over and send them out to police society.  I swear if I hear "studies show masks work" one more fricking time I'm gonna 'splode/.  Common sense shows maybe masks are not working since its spreads regardless of people using them or not when they pretty much ignore every other precaution. 

I joke that it will end on 11/4 if Biden wins, but seriously expect it to far less serious in reporting by the 1st of Feb if so.

I don't want it, I don't want anyone else to get it, but we cant stop it with a cloth mask and scolding conservatives.  Interesting times.

If you focus on the political aspect of all of this "panic", it becomes clear how much of this is pure politics, which of course is ALL of it.

We never suffered, nor panicked. We kept our normal shopping schedule, and never left wanting for anything. Mind you, being retired, our needs are modest
Staying home was easy,I have lots of projects in my shop - some even got finished; our back yard got landscaped (finally) and our fence got painted (again, finally!). Staying close to home, we discovered how wonderful our neighbors are... instead of driving into the garage, and getting out of the car, people are out walking with their kids and dogs, and they are out biking, and there were a few driveway propane campfires (socially distanced, of course...). We had lots of (arms length) visiting with the neighbor folk out on the street.  When things loosened up a bit, we were able to get some camping in.

I am not a mask fan.....I resisted til the end, but when the cases started climbing, I got one of those neck gaiter things that I can slip up over my nose when required, and pull it down, once free of the imaginary danger zone.........

As a way of life we social distance.  Never liked crowds or standing in lines so they have been avoided for years.  It was a little annoying being treated like you are radioactive by people who are obviously living in irrational fear.

That's the thing the gets me, is the tense feeing in the air when you go to town, like a balloon slowly filling and everyone is waiting for the moment it pops.   This is a virus, there is not going to be a pop and its over.   That's the thing that is probably most unsettling, the indoctrination.

That behavior can change natural occurrence, the same people who have been beaten into submission with global warming are now being made subjects of covid, with nothing more than empty promises of politicians that they alone can fix it.   I think more people could benefit from this and this     than this

What I'm watching right now is the MN state house race. The "republican" senate has been trying to disembowel our little King governor's 'emergency powers', but the democrat house is in charge of how that stuff rolls.

A simple one vote majority will yank Timmy the Little Tyrant's    gilded rug out from under him and perhaps save the last few mom&pops from going under.

I get a chuckle out of all the people wearing uni-bras on their faces, and believing they are doing something positive......

We were supposed to be in Vegas this past weekend, but everything got cancelled on us...Up until then, I was actively following what the state and Clark County health officials were doing to manage the gradual re-opening of everything. Seems they were more interested in managing the data ( number of cases vs testing, etc) rather than providing any kind of leadership guidance.

Here Jaime, this might explain a few things.

That doesn't surprise me Stetto, it's been like that for years for everything from anchor babies to medical care.  All they have to do is walk across the Stanton Street bridge into downtown El Paso and call 911.  The first responders have to answer the calls, and just by coincidence the county hospital is literally right on the border.  For all practical, purposes, El Paso and Juarez are one big city.  If the Rio Grande didn't happen to be a national border, no one would know the difference between the two.  It's always been that way and probably always will be, something that the pols in Washington and Austin don't seem to understand.

Life is pretty normal here.  We're in an unincorporated part of the county, so the mask police pretty much leave us alone.  The restaurants and bars aren't to capacity yet, but they're not far from it.

Back in the late 80s I was in a band that played in two El Paso bar/resraurants, Saso's and Scorpios. Scorpios was just outside Fort Bliss, but I remember Saso's closer to downtown. Saso's also served some of the best Tex-Mex I've ever had.

Downside of Saso's was we always played there the week after Pantera. Those guys were pigs....
We never played El Paso without a trip to Juarez. 25 cent Tecates? Damm skippy!
