Been busy on the RC front for quite a while now, mainly building prototypes for the hobby business in Bryan, TX.  The latest is an 86 inch A-1E Skyraider, which follows the single seater we did last year.  This one will come in gray, camo and drone control yellow and gray schemes.  We're prepping a 120 inch B-17 now, that one should be coming early next year.  I finally got all my customer and hobby shop birds done, so now I can get back to doing some of my stuff!

Here's a shot of the 13 foot O-1 Bird Dog at Bomber Field a few weeks ago.  Friend Wally is starting the engine, Larry on the tail with the radio, and grandson Sean and me on the wings.

And a shot of the Bird Dog on a low fly by.  Is it live, or is it Memorex??   :icon_mrgreen:

Very cool stuff! What combustion device is under the cowl of the 0-1 ?

Nony, she has an EME 120 opposed twin gasser under the hood.  It fits just fine and the exhaust even comes out in the scale location.  Jeti radio with Hitec high torque servos.  57 pounds empty...

I was given a 12-foot Bird Dog-type plane when I first got into the hobby, never flew it nor even started the engine. I stored it for a year and gave it to another guy. Never heard if he got it airborne or not.

They do take up a LOT of storage space, though... :disturbed:

It's really too big to be a practical weekend flyer.  It doesn't fit in any of our vehicles, we have to use Wally's 16 foot trailer any time we take it out.  There's an 88 inch version in the works that should be available soon.

On the plus side, it flies like a big trainer.  We had to come down quite a bit on prop pitch from the original because at idle with the bigger prop, it wouldn't slow down enough to land!  It would float across the runway all day long, had to dead stick it.

And just read an article that the idiots in Kalifornia are banning small gasoline engines starting in 2024......

That figures.......! Can always covert them to alcohol or propane......🙄😁

If we start now on Cali, we can probably have it cut free by then.

I bought a 108" Space Walker on one of the infamous auctions, flew it twice I think, I sold it finally at another auction, just too big.  I have come to learn if you have to tear apart plane to haul it 200 yards, its too big.

Hey Greg, the least you could do is drop in and bitch about weather from time to time.   :icon_biggrin:
