I had a guy come over and cut my 8th acre last week. After two very warm days of drying I tried to till...Mistake...Tiller took half my day just to hose the black sticky tarballs out from the tines. I only made two passes and gave up...

If yesterday was any indication, I won't be ready to plant til October. I can see how stuff loves to grow in this, it has to be the most nutrient-rich muck on earth. It also makes one much taller, for the way it builds on the bottom of the boots...

I don't know what's worse,  that heavy sticky stuff, or what we have, fine silt that become like ice when wet. I have been stuck more in my yard this year than ever.

Funny you say that Nony. The guy who turned my plot said I "might need to add some sand". 

A neighbor stopped in--A guy with a couple thousand acres to farm. He says "good luck waiting for it to dry". Apparently this stuff holds water like Jello.

I am considering being despondant. The electrical inspector failed me on two projects this last week.

Huh, forgot to update...Go figure...

So I took last Friday off to till. I might have let it dry too long. Started at 8 am. Quit at 6 pm. Got through it four times, increasing depth a couple inches each time, last one was maxxed at 7". I tried to run the tiller on the last run with the tines running forward...You guys would've enjoyed that. 

...But aside from the fist-size clumps of concrete-like balls of dirt, I thought I did pretty good for a doddering old grandad.

I never want to break sod again...

We got almost three-and-a-half inches of fast, hard rain this morning, along with some impressive hail. PuddinFace's flower plot was terminated. She'd just planted it yesterday...

More rain on the way, maybe I'll let the plot dry a couple days and try to till the clumps out.

Well don't feel too bad, we keep getting rain too, still have puddles all over the yard so long they are getting algae on them. and I still have yet to plant some millet.  2 years ago I had 40 tons of hay balled by now.

rain, rain, rain and more rain.....  Mixed feelings over this as I moved away from the wet coast to get away from the rain....but the lack of moisture due to the short winter and relative lack of snow has put us under a fire ban for the last 2 months.....I know we need some rain, but sheeesh! Enuf is enuf!!!!!

After the 3 & 1/4 inches last week we got nuthin'. The trees and scrub act like the big rain never happened, but the eighth acre is still gooey.

I'been trying all day to convince myself to till and plant, but it's going to be tomorrow...Perhaps...

I swear if it does that here now, you will find me curled up in the fetal position next to the wall somewhere mumbling "there are no bears" over and over.

Been in the low 90's here the last few days.  Of course the relentless wind never stops.  I've never seen such a windy winter and spring before.  Wonder if its because wstxflyer and nony have been yappin this winter and spring

We had 90 degrees a couple days ago and I thought I would melt, until then and since its all of 70s for a high. Been exceptionally wet and we have not had all that much wind, but when we get it its been bad, lost some big tree branches and had some roof damage, and the worst is it blew away the seat cover for my loader tractor and I can't find it.  Nothing worse than sitting on cold wet steel seat.

So far today looks like it would be perfect flying weather though, severe clear and calm, of course looks like I'll be flying a hammer.
