Life under martial law, sort of...

"Overblown" is how I started the conversation with PuddinFace this morning, the politicians saw the true potential of an undeclared suspension of the Constitution once they saw the peasantry stuffing palletloads of Charmin Ultra into the backs of their Escalades.

This permission bullshit is just that. I got into the mask thing with Salcedo yesterday via Messenger, he started using my words on his show, but not in agreement, he claims "freedom has consequences" means nothing in this situation. I've run across so many fairweather patriots in the last weeks, my circle of friends is definitely constricting....Willing to give up rights for a false sense of security...How shallow has this population let itself be led to?...

Onepoint

""freedom has consequences" means nothing in this situation."  if liberty means anything at all, it means everything especially when it's stressed and dangerous to exercise it.  Otherwise it's simply ruling by elite or majority with NO respect or acknowledgment of inalienable rights, meting out permissions as they see fit.

Here is the test of if it's infringement or justified reaction. For any justification to forcibly abridge the rights of people, you would have to show one is a actual threat, not just a potential one.  Quarantining people who are sick or suspected of being so is reasonable, quarantining everyone because they may possibly get infected, is $@*^%! insane.

That is disappointing coming from him,  but not particularly shocking considering how many people have simply fell in line because of what they were told was happening and what to do without question.  One can start to see how people walked voluntarily into gas chambers.

Especially the forced closing of some businesses, but not all. Cherry picking who gets to prosper and who gets to latch to the tit is NOT right...

We know a family that runs a small Italian hole-in-the-wall eatery over in Fargo. Their governor (R, whatever) has deigned to "allow" restaurants over there to open for inside business, as long as there's never more than 50% of capacity and tables are spread out, every other booth is taped off, and patrons and staff wear masks at all times...first of all, has any of you tried to eat WITH A MASK ON YOUR FACE? I haven't for a pretty good reason. Second, these folks run hand to mouth when the place is bustling, what would be the point of this unless you tripled prices to make up for Lil' Hitlers misinformed political tactics? They've pretty much decided to walk away...what a fookin' crime.

And hey, isn't there a necessity for declaration of martial law or some such shit in order to randomly take peoples rights away?

And nobody, NOBODY, is looking at what all this devastation is going to look like in a year, when ration cards are issued to whom the state deems...eligible...

Oh  there are some looking, they are just afraid to bring it to the attention of the reality TV crowd or people will try stuffing closets with ground beef instead of toilet paper.   But our supply chain is broken right now, we are just living off the surplus, and that is running out fast. You are starting to hear here and there  the words "food shortage" more and more.

Think about it though, we have a medical crisis that originally had people scared there would not be enough healthcare workers to provide care and now they are being laid off because the rulers decreed no more procedures but what they deemed necessary.  The crisis never happened, but instead of going back to normal they insist we all pretend it did.     We have high consumer demand for beef and other meat but because the packing plants are shutting down because they have infected people there is no place to go with them so chicken and hogs are simply being killed and dumped as the supply chain piles up, beef producers are hanging onto them so far but it's causing a glut that is making the price bottom fall out.  Starting to be talk if they will even have a fall run of calf sales if this does not free up soon. Dairy that has been supported mostly through subsidized markets of govt school food programs and restaurants is having to dump milk and soon will start killing their cows, if they have a place to go with them.  The impact of this has not even begun to be felt yet, and its going to be unavoidable and severe when it is.

And for what? The infection rate has not been significantly abated by the shutting down of business that they can prove, they are purposefully skewing the statistics to make it sound worse than what it would if left to actual numbers.  The social distancing and disinfection stuff is prudent,  but dictating who can come out in public or be open for business is so over the top and harmful it's not even funny.   Who is benefitting? Banks, large corps and govt, the rest of us are struggling, like usual.  And whats worse, the statists are so giddy they keep hinting this will be the new normal.

jetmex

That "new normal" BS is really getting on my nerves.  Who decided that the normal normal was all that bad?

On the plus side, Texas is opening up, which sounds really weird because we never should have been shut down to start with.  Restaurants will be limited to 25% capacity indoor and all their staff will need to be masked.  Other business will have to do that social distancing (some Harvard wizard must have gotten paid a lot of money to come up with that term) crap and can also specify whether their staffs and customers need to look like stand ins from a bad ninja movie.  All the road tolls that were waived have been reinstated, of course, because they can shut the damn state down but God help us if we aren't paying our taxes while we're all unemployed because of this.

We're still pretty much shut down at work, but at least you won't have to sit in a middle seat because we're blocking them all!!  That's assuming you're going to want to fly in the first place.  All the cabin crews will have to wear masks, which is a good thing because most of them look better like that anyway!!   :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Have they addressed the ventilation issues in those flying petri dishes, Jaime? That's been a nightmare since the first pressurized airliner went up...

This is funny and timely on George Carlin and germs.  It's around 6 and a half minute routine.
To understand true love, lock your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour and then see which one is glad to see you when you come back

The gubmint is starting to loosen the noose up here.....some things start opening up tomorrow in a 3 stage plan. If people behave, and infections don't rise, then more businesses will be permitted to resume in 2 weeks........if not, then we are back to square zero.

A positive move, in any case........

Believe it or not, Stetto, the old airplanes are much better about that than the new ones.  Older birds like my 727 exchanged all the cabin air with fresh every few minutes, but the newer airplanes recirculate most of it to ease the load on the engine bleed air systems and save fuel.  Sort of like selecting your car AC to high mode.  There are all sorts of cabin filters that need to be looked at, but they are expensive and way down on the priority list of inspection items (until recently anyway) so the change intervals are pretty high.  We'll see how serious they get about that as time goes on.  Spreading people out and not selling middle seats isn't going to help much.  Opening a window or two might...  :disturbed:

We've all been given two extra days off per month (with pay so far) and asked to take extra vacation (though they won't guarantee we can take it), but no telling how long that will last.  All the ramp and customer service people are now effectively part time with all the hours that have been cut from their schedules. The flying public is now sufficiently terrified of the flying petri dishes that it will be a very long time before things get anywhere near what they were a few months ago.  Early retirement is looking more and more like reality at this point.  We'll see....

Ah, the perils of self loading cargo......

Texas is opening up!  The beaches in Galveston were jammed yesterday, much to the consternation of the misguided officials in Houston, who have no jurisdiction over Galveston.  Most of the restaurants are playing it "safe" with the state mandated 25% occupancy, but I suspect it won't be long before that goes out the window.  Still plenty of ninjas walking around.  The crime rate will probably go up because when the cops ask if you got a look at the perp, you'll have to say no, because he / she /  it was wearing a mask!!   :disturbed:

Toilet paper is making a comeback, still can't find disinfectant type cleaners or hand sanitizer.  One of the grocery chains here just put a limit on meat purchases because that's the next thing people are going to freak out over.

Some wag on the radio yesterday referred to our illustrious county judge as "that little girl."

Kinda scary with the US being the center of the Covid Universe right now. Last I heard the growth rate was .96...which means for every person that recovers,  or dies, .96 new people catch the stupid disease.....

I hope you guys survive this, in spite of the officials........

I just ordered a whole hog from my meat guy, still debating whether we want a mixed quarter or a full side of beef. He processes the hog at +/- $2 per pound, so it ain't exactly free, but beef is starting to become a rarity, so I don't know if a full side isn't a damned good idea. Some fast food outfits have dropped beef from the menu already...

Our farmer of choice is raising a Wagyu/Angus crossbreed this year, canNOT wait to hang a lip on one of those ribeyes!

Heh heh, and Carl, my meat guy would love to come down with me on a hunt....This isn't the first time he's asked...

Onepoint

Ironic, Vicki ordered a 1/2 hog right as the pandemic blew up, but the processor caught fire and most of it was lost, at least the good parts like the cured meat.  Thats the 2nd time in 2 years these poor people running the meat business have lost their meat to a fire at the meat processor.  :sadness:

No worries Nony, for he most part this a NYC problem more than anything with a few exceptions like Grand island NE who had a packing plant infect a coup0le hundred at once.   The rest of us are keeping it mitigated through having a brain for the most part.

The virus in not the main issue, it's the nanny statists that cause the real problem, and there is no cure for them, at least medically approved.

Eric,

Y'all are more than welcome, stop on the way and grab the Honcho and bring him too.  I wish I could figure out how to post pics on here.
