We set a record that topped one by a degree from 1889 supposedly.   Figure that into global warming.  Yesterday was down right nice, mid 80s, nice breeze, a little smoke from fires to the west of us but I would take a day like that anytime.

July 1 and 43 degrees this morning. Tomatoes and corn don't like it much when it gets chilly.

I didn't have to plant potatoes this year; found enough "volunteers" coming out of the dirt that I simply transplanted them into rows. I got heritage spuds!!😆

Yeah we woke up to a cloudy low scud day, not so cool really, but humid as heck, which is switch from being hot and dry.

I hope yesterday was our "big'un" for the season. 2.75 inches in about an hour. There were tornados, just not here. We got 80mph straight winds though. The corn and peppers are flat on the ground. Surprise though, the sump is NOT working 24/7. That's a first. I did a lot of grade work last fall, maybe did some good...

YEha, we have had those popup storms, hit or miss, we have been getting a 10th maybe a 1/4" in a cloud burst, but places around us get 2" hail and 2" of rain.  Right in our little hole its bone dry, the neighbor decided he didn't want his hay stack and lit up some weeds despite a burn ban, and quickly spread to his hay stack in his yard. All kinds of pretty lights at the neighbor last evening.

Dang, the corn had finally got itself right end up and we got another inch and a quarter last night.

You Texicans must be used to this, how do you keep the corn standing? Bring it in at night?

I think they give it hugs.

Corner fluffers? :eusa_doh:

Just took a stroll out to the back. We lost a few good size trees last night. They were just boxelder, one of the rodents of the tree world, but someone will have to get out the Husqy and clean it up....

Another inch and a half last night. This one woke me at 2 and kept me up. It's still raining, "they" say another 2 inches coming along with more high winds.

Let's see, since Friday night I calculate right at 5 1/2 now with more on the way. The sump is running every ten minutes or so. It'll be much more frequent by this time tomorrow.

Glad I don't live in Texas.  :eek5: We have a creek trying to overrun in the back, but it's quite a ways downhill from the house....we ain't quite as flat right cheer....

We have had 7/10" over about 3 weeks, but it may as well have been nothing, bone dry, grass fires popping up everywhere from anything from exhaust to sparks from metal hitting rocks.  We had a wet spring and the cheat grass got tall and thick so its fire just waiting to happen with triple digit temps, teen humidity and breezes.

Why?  It's been a balmy 98 or so for the past week, with enough humidity to preserve your skin and raise the heat indexes to 108 or so.  What more could anyone want?   :icon_mrgreen:

Not much corn around here.  What there is pops when the temps get high enough so we just put butter and salt on it and put on a good movie.

Jaime, drive into Corpus from the west on I37. You'll see square miles of corn... :icon_wink:

We already get the mid-heat temps with the astronomical humidity, plus the bluejay sized mosquitos. Without the salt water...

balsum fractus

apparently we have been subscribed to the "Storm a Day" club.....thunderstorms rolling through every day from every direction. Remember all the rain we didn't get last spring.....we got it with interest....  not so much as you southerners, but way more than usual...

Us too Nony, another 2 inches last night. Sump running every 70 seconds, I had diverted it into a slop sink last year while we did yard work, never got around to putting the pipe back outside. I fear for the drain field...

Our chance of more rain tonight is down to 60%.

Rain, I have heard of that before.  Funny how it contrasts.  We had the lowest humidity yesterday in 16 years, 3.6% officially, it was combined with a 30 to 50 mph wind in places, and unfortunately made any spark explode into a 50mph inferno.  We had a grass fire start about noon yesterday 17 miles north of Torrington, by dark it covered about 25000 acres.  We also have a forest fire burning on the CO border west of Laramie which is about 150 miles as the crow flies from us that has crossed into WY and is about 20k acres now.  That's a lot of smoke in the air at times, cheeyenne was socked in yesterday in the afternoon with it.
