When you could just go to an RC forum and register, ask questions and participate a little.   I can't get into either RC groups nor RCU.  And can't get the staff to answer any help requests.  I guess their time is filled making more ads to plunk in the forums somewhere.  :disgust:

You should start your own RC forum  :icon_wink: :icon_wink: :icon_wink:

Yeah..but I'm too bustin busting chops on politics n such. :)

I just find it annoying you can't get a reply from people.

We did:

http://hangarflying.proboards.com/index.cgi

Started off ok, then the pond got really popular and almost everyone left the airplane part of it.  It was cool for a while, though.

About the only section I visit anymore on RCU or RC Groups is the classifieds.  I've gotten a few good deals doing that.

Onepoint

It was a trend in forums and still is for that matter, that all the flashy stuff, sponsorships and a huge community seems to make people think its better, but after seeing what RCU became and a couple forums of other interests, its eventually comes down to that,  The forums themselves benefit, but the users tend not to and they are good for the classifieds and maybe some FAQs, but much of the interaction is pointless and unproductive.  But they keep turning over new members and grow.

Unlike these mega forums would like to have you think, there is no single place to go for anything, good forums are ones that bring info from all over, and let ideas get exchanged.  That does lead to conflict, whether its politics or what brand is better.  Unless you find a median, either the forum adopts policies that so narrow the scope to the point its not worth reading everyday, or its ambient noise goes way up to the point you can't find anything objective.

Anyway, I was just ranting about the customer service of these guys.

The Honcho, one time superstar of that long dead internet modelling icon RCO, has apparently been blackballed at the current monolith...

...Details at 11...

I still have an active account at RC Groups, but don't go to any RC sites anymore. The old gang has dispersed, and the cream of that crop assemble here... 8)

Hey Marty, man the door has been open so long waiting on you it was getting drafty.

As as side note I flew the Nitro planes 109 today, what a great little plane and bargain to boot.  It may be all cheapo Chinese stuff, but it serves the purpose of just grabbing it and tossing it up for a few minutes.

Just FYI,  http://www.nitroplanes.com/4ch.html I got it to me for $103 with shipping, until the 31st they have 10% off the price.  Then go to their sister site of www.hobbypartz.com and buy 1300ma batteries for 6 bucks and free shipping.  The plane comes with a balance charger and 2.4ghz radio.  I needed all that stuff since and one pretty ready to go since electrics are some foreign language for me.  But its nice to be pleasantly surprised since i was epecting somwhat less than stellar build and performance for the money in.

Cool, glad to hear it's a good flying model.  These beer cooler planes are great, low cost, low emotional factor and easy to fix.

A tip on the lipo batteries - store them discharged and keep them away from the heat.  Found that out the hard way and had to replace a bunch of batteries.

Wait until you get to edf jets..... :icon_mrgreen:

Marty!!  Long time no see!

Appreciate the tip on lipos, its all new to me, heck I really never understood batteries that well to start with so am getting the crash course.

The EDFs are mildly interesting, but its not where my heart is right now, they are fun to watch, and I do like the A10s though.  I am trying to keep myself from buying the Jug.

GySgtUSMC

I still have that shirt although I should return it for lack of use.

Honcho... that jug is calling your name

Onepoint

Naw Marty, better keep it,  its like being a Marine, there is no such thing as ex Fubar.

jetmex

Once a Fubar, always a Fubar!!

Honcho, if you don't want to get into edf jets, try one of these:

http://www.yardbirdrc.com/    I have the Mig-29.

Or:

http://www.6mmflyrc.com

Jet looks and performance with a prop!  I'm back to work on my 6mm Phantom, getting really close to being ready to fly.  They have a prop in slot version as well.  Price is right and they are loads of fun to fly...
