So, some of you guys know that I've been a musician in my life, a pretty good one at one time.

I've been having trouble getting my hands to work so good since my spine started going nuts on me, and I don't dare play to audiences anymore because I just don't trust my sh!thooks to not take a powder in the middle of a song--I'm kinda self-conscious that way. But I love music and performing and really want to keep my "fingers" in it...

So I've talked with Terrin and she's agreed to let me start hosting "house concerts". The place is big enough to qualify as a small venue, and we have nothing if not parking space out here, so I got in touch with a friend with whom I've performed before, and he's agreed to participate in my inaugural show in May, perhaps bringing this guy with him. I had no idea he was a musician, but he plays one hell of a bad guy on my kids favorite sci-fi tv show...

I won't be making any money in this endeavor, it doesn't work that way. But if a good time is had by all and the turnout is good, I'll be making some great contacts and a lot of new friends in the business (and the neighborhood).

And you guys will be invited... :icon_cool:

Carl, I might need you to haul that travelin' B-B-Q up here for the festivities...

The MN fishing opener starts around the same time, hint, hint...

Cool!!  Let me know when you want to get the concert series started.  David (my son) will want to come (can he bring his guitar?) and if you give me a day or two of warning, I'll bring Van Halen with me, too...... :icon_mrgreen:

First show is tonight. We got rsvp's to the tune of around 30+. A real cross section of Americana too...We're shelling out some coin for the privilege, so it better be a good time.

...And speaking of time, the timing couldn't be worse: I have another arthritic spur in my neck bones, I get about an hour of sleep per night. Looks like surgery again. :eusa_wall:

Well have fun tonight,  surgery sounds like no fun though.

Wow...

Just

Wow.

I don't know if 35-40 people ever had such a good time. Dave & Charlie played the whole show together, trading off songs and accompaning each other on every musical gadget imaginable, from acordian to kazoo and all implements in between. Great Smothers Brothers-style comedy between each song, they even had EVERYBODY singing along on a few. Worth every brain cell lost and gray hair gained.

We'll be doing it again. The musicians loved it as well, and are posting the place as a premier venue to the touring musical population. The guests have been blabbing and fawning over us for "what a great idea!", and it wasn't our idea--But word will get around and I have no doubt that our shows will wind up being outdoor events.

It did cost us a bit of coin. Food, beverages, postage, minutia that adds up, we're hurtin' to the tune of around $500.

If money makes memories, its well spent.  It would have been fun to come, but there is no off days, at least consecutive ones unfortunately.

Charlie Roth stayed the night with us, he and I traded licks (guitar) til 3:00 am Sunday. This guy is so knowledged and so travelled it blows me away. He asked for some recordings of mine, he "might" want to cover one or more...I need to start recording...

I HIGHLY suggest that you guys pick up "Broken Ground", his latest CD. You can find it at Charlierothmusic.com. He played most of that album Sat. nite, and gave me a copy for being such a nice guy...Even signed it...Sorry Ron, no spandex or big hair to be seen the whole weekend. :eek5:
